The use of corpus linguistics in English Language Teaching (ELT) holds great potential for improving teaching methods by making them closer to real-life language use. Though it has a lot of benefits, it is not widely used among ELT practitioners due to inadequate training and resources. The present study focuses on this gap by designing, delivering, and assessing comprehensive training resources to assist teachers in effectively using corpus linguistics tools in teaching.
The present research uses a mixed-method design approach, specifically quasi-experimental design complemented by case studies in order to determine the effectiveness of the proposed training programs. The sample consisted of 120 ELT educators teaching in secondary and higher education institutions. Educators were then taken through a series of workshops to introduce them to the use of corpus tools and how to apply their findings for language teaching purposes. The quasi-experimental design incorporated, at each intervention site, pre- and post-intervention interviews, questionnaire surveys and lesson observations. These methods captured the qualitative feedback of educators on changes in teaching practices.
