This study was done to understand the decision-making of retail investors in the Indian stock market. As seen, India's economy is growing and the middle-class population is using new trading platforms. But, the behavior of investors often differs from rational finance theories, in which people are considered rational decision-makers. Thus, Behavioral Finance Theory and Prospect Theory are applied in the paper to study how factors such as overconfidence, herding and loss aversion influence investment decisions and volatility in the market. The study followed a qualitative approach and examined secondary data collected from journals of academic works, industry reports and market data. This research study will yield highly valuable insights for emerging markets such as India and would be very useful for investor awareness, designing financial products, and policy-making.
