In this sample the objectives of this research are to mainstream general trends for adaptation into a best practice framework relative to climate and building type, and to map out the big picture of the environmental economy, and social impacts of adaptive re-use this focuses on the improvement of the adaptive re-use business strategies with an aim of maximizing carbon reduction on different building types and climate zones. Re-use or transformation of functions to existing structures has been described as the sustainable approach for altering the usage of the buildings, and consequently, towards reducing the quantity of carbon dioxide emissions and conserving resources.
However, the adaptive re-use of buildings also come with several burdens, these include the following; high initial cost, constraints from the regulatory bodies, and challenge in developing modifications in old buildings. Hence this research employs a combination of literature review, interviews, case studies, observation surveys and simulation to assess the energy consumption and carbon deduction in adaptive re-used buildings.
