The main objective of this assignment is to evaluate students’ ability to gather financial data and apply various financial analysis techniques. It also aims to assess their skills in evaluating a company’s financial position, identifying areas of strength and weakness, and providing informed recommendations for both the company and its investors. Additionally, the assignment seeks to measure students' ability to use appropriate software tools for preparing and analysing financial statements.
The final project for this module involves conducting a comprehensive financial statement analysis of a publicly traded company. The project should be completed in groups of 2 – 3 students. Each group should select a non-financial, publicly listed company (preferably from ADX or DFM) with available financial statements for the most recent two-year period. The objective of the project is to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the company's financial health using techniques such as financial ratio analysis, common-size statements, and trend (index) analysis.
The assignment should deliver a comprehensive financial analysis of the selected company, applying a range of financial analysis techniques such as graphical representations, common-size analysis, and financial ratio analysis, including DuPont analysis and credit risk assessment.
Your final report should include and address the following:
i)Perform a two-year financial analysis of the selected company, covering the following key areas:
1. Liquidity Position-Evaluate the company's ability to meet short-term obligations.
2. Asset Management Efficiency-Assess how effectively the company utilises its assets to generate revenue.
3. Solvency (Leverage) Position- Analyse the company’s long-term financial stability and debt management.
4. Profitability-Evaluate overall profitability, including a detailed DuPont Analysis to break down the return on equity.
5. Market Value Ratios - Assess the company's market performance and valuation based on key market-based ratios.
ii) Conduct a Piotroski F-Score analysis to assess the financial strength of the selected company. Examine all nine indicators, justify the awarding of each point, and interpret the resulting score in terms of financial robustness and risk profile.)
.iii) Common-size analysis.
iv) Summary of the major strengths and weaknesses of the selected company.
v) A description of the overall ratios trend and what it implies for the current and future financial performance of the selected company.
vi) Strategic Financial Insight and Recommendation: Using the financial evidence generated, evaluate one realistic strategic option for the organisation and present a clear, financially supported recommendation.
vii) Executive Conclusion: Provide a concise synthesis of key insights and reflect on how financial analysis contributes to organisational understanding and strategic direction.
The assignment should have the following structure:-
1. Abstract (Purpose, Methodology, Findings, Conclusion)
2. Introduction (background of the study and for the selected company used as a case study; objectives and significance of the study)-
4. Methodology (sample, techniques, measures, variables, etc)
5. Data Analysis and findings-
6. Conclusion and Recommendations
7. References (use the referencing style adopted by BUiD)
8. Appendices (if needed)
Submission Guidelines:
The research report must be submitted on or before Week 9.
The report must follow a word limit between 3500 and 4500 words.
The soft copy of the report must be submitted through Blackboard. This will automatically generate a Turnitin report for your manuscript to check for plagiarism. There are two designated folders for submission:
1. Draft Submission Folder: This folder is for submitting your draft to check for plagiarism before submitting the final version of the report.
2. Final Report Submission Folder: This folder is for submitting your final report after addressing any feedback or revisions based on the plagiarism check.

Use of appropriate software (e.g., spreadsheet tools, financial analysis software, etc.) is encouraged for data analysis and report preparation. Ensure that all relevant software and tools are used correctly to support the analysis.

The financial statements used in the analysis should be attached to your report (Place it in the Appendix) or must be sent to the module coordinator by email.- Instructor feedback on your assignment will be available until week 7.
Upon completion of the project, each group must deliver a formal presentation of their work. The presentation should concisely summarise the financial analysis conducted, discuss key insights, and offer practical recommendations for both the company and potential investors.
