Assignment Instructions

For this assignment, you are required to develop a poster from an academic journal article. You are to provide a reference for the article using APA or Harvard citation styles. A comprehensive guide to these and other citation styles is available at: https://guides.lib.monash.edu/citing-referencing.

To complete this assignment:

  1. Select a journal article. It must be a quantitative study, involve university or college (tertiary-level) students and be published in a recognised academic journal (preferably peer-reviewed).
    1. Note: You may use mixed-methods studies as long as there is a quantitative/statistical component to the research.
  2. Read the article and take notes of the main sections and key information, which should include:
    1. The research topic and main research questions and sub-questions
    2. Literature review: Background information about the topic from previous studies
    3. Methodology: How the study was carried out
    4. Results/Findings: What the study found and how the author interpreted it. This should involve statistical and numerical data
    5. Conclusion: The author's summary and recommendations
  3. Create a poster that turns the essential information from your notes into a visual and engaging "story" for a general audience in the form of a poster (A3 size). You should use both texts and visuals in your informational/educational poster to communicate the statistical data and findings.
    1. Your audience should be fellow university students. The poster should include and explain any discipline-specific or technical information to your audience without assuming prior knowledge of the subject.
    2. Title: You may use or adapt the original journal article title
    3. Subtitle: Under the title, include your name, ID and the full academic reference of the journal article in APA or Harvard Format.
    4. Sections: The sections of your poster should be similar to those described in Step 2 and/or those outlined in the journal article itself. However, you can adapt the sections as necessary to fit into the overall "story" design of your poster.
    5. Statistical information should be conveyed using well-designed and logical graphs and illustrations that enhance your audience's understanding of the research.

The activities and resources under Week 2: "Storifying Knowledge" will be directly relevant to this assignment.
