The statement can be justified by the findings of Statista and Tobacco-Induced Disease. From the findings of a survey conducted by Statista in 2023 (refer to figure 1), it can be interpreted that around 23.5% and 9.4% of college students consume nicotine or tobacco products daily and a weekly basis respectively in the US (Statista, 2023). The study will provide in-depth insights and evidence on how nicotine consumption among college students adversely affects their mental health stability at a young age. In Great Britain, nicotine products such as E-cigarettes have been explicitly used between the age group 11-18 years and around 30% of UK college students consume E-cigarettes in 2022 (Refer to figure 2) (Williams et al., 2023). The present study explores the ill effects of consuming nicotine on the mental health of college students, however, the existing literature focuses on the negative impact of nicotine on the physical health of teenagers such as “stroke”, “lung disease”, “cough”, and “breathing problems” and “heart blockage”. According to authors, Affolter et al., (2023), nicotine dependence has increased among college students in academic settings because nicotine helps to provide mental relaxation from trauma, performance pressure, and peer pressure for a shorter period.
