Activity 4.1:

Describe the key terminology in your own words

  1. Diversity: We must know that each person is unique and different, and their point of view or perspective on a specific topic is all different. So all of us have to be patient in accepting the differences. It helps all of us to know that in the end, we will accept ourselves and it strengthens the connections and sessions.

  2.  Equality: It will help you to make sure that everybody is treated equally. They have to provide the same opportunities that can help them grow in their career. But it does not mean that you have to treat everybody the same. For example, There is a minor difference between a college student and a school student. Education is a powerful weapon that supports all of us to know each other. Education works as a weapon. Without education, it is not possible to remove the discrimination around us. Our society always judges a person based on caste, religion, and other things that are not good.

  3. Inclusion: It is the responsibility of all of us to make sure that all people take part in all the activities. It does not matter what their religion, caste, or gender is. The main duty of an administrator is to make sure that the person who is present in the activities and process represents all the candidates who consider themselves different from the others.

  4. Discrimination: The Meaning of discrimination is treating someone differently from others. Our society discriminates against people due to their narrow thinking, such as caste, religion, physical disability, age, gender, and social.

Activity 4.1 b

Discrimination may happen deliberately or by mistake within social care or health settings. For each of the examples below, describe the discrimination that is happening including whether it is deliberate or inadvertent (by mistake).

Example 1:

A community group organizes activities in a village hall that does not have access that is suitable for individuals who are wheelchair users. The limited facilities that are provided by the community were probably overlooked when they were organized. The Equality Act of 2010 explains that it is illegal to treat people badly due to their caste, region, gender, etc. 

Many times, conditions or situations make people different from each other. For exampleDespite scoring the highest marks in the examination, she got the third rank in the class because she belonged to the Mahawar caste, and the society shows its narrow thinking towards the Mahawar Caste.

Example 2:

In a hospital, a volunteer gives small portions of the food to the women rather than the men because they believe that men have bigger appetites.

Some people make professional decisions based on orthodox and ancient traditions. They believe that women are less capable than men. This kind of organization usually prefers to hire the male staff and refuses to hire female staff even in cases when they have more qualities than men. The volunteers criticize women. These kinds of companies pay less to their female employees.

This thing is called ‘’gender discrimination.’’ Many times, their negative thinking affects their work practices also.

Example: 3

A care home has a policy that limits kitchen hours from 8 am to 5 pm. A new resident observes Ramadan, meaning they can eat only before sunrise and after sunset. As a result of the kitchen policy, they are not able to eat proper meals during the month of Ramadan.

The Human Rights Act 1998 was established in 1998 in the United Kingdom. This fundamental right states that no one shall be discriminated against based on caste or religious beliefs. The care home shows its narrow thinking against new inhabitants. They do not give respect to their religious trusts and beliefs.

They are creating a negative environment and mindset for the society where people are not getting respect and value. But some transformations are happening nowadays. We all are living in a society, and we give respect to each other, and we should always respect each other’s religious beliefs. 

Example 4:

A home care worker stays longer at the home of an individual than they should because they are fond of the individual which means that the next person has less time for their care and support.

The home care worker discriminates against the new customers because they give importance and preference to their priorities. This kind of people creates a negative environment and is proven to be a wrong example for society and the result is that their customers don’t get the equality and respect that they deserve.

Activity 4.1 C

There are a number of ways that can help to reduce the likelihood of discrimination happening in a workplace. Explain how practices that support equality and diversity, such as working in a person-centered way, can help to reduce discrimination in the workplace.

Some methods can be useful in reducing discrimination, such as working in a people-centered way. The companies have to talk to all the employees about their preferences, choices requirements. The companies have to consult them about the priorities and have to cooperate with them as an equal partner in their care law. The companies have to support the choices and beliefs of their employees. Also, the employees boost their rights, where their rights to make their own decisions are also combined.

Various workplaces believe in equality and diversity. They believe that in this era, men and women are the same. Women can also do all the activities for the welfare and growth of society as men can. Organizations have to make different pay scales for the upcoming generation and hire an equal number of employees from every gender. 

The one more thing, but the most important thing, is that companies have to keep an employee’s information private. The workplace is the area where all the people who belong to different castes, religions, and even perspectives work together. This is the reason that the workplace believes in unity and the people who are working there have to be open-minded.

Activity 4.2 a

Which legislation and codes of practices or conduct relating to equality, diversity, and discrimination apply to you as a care worker?

There are some laws, whom you already know about to successfully report diversity, equality, and conclusion. Here we are discussing the main laws that are essential for your role as a care worker.

The Equality Act 2010

It is not only unethical but also illegal to behave wthatith the human beings around you. People present in society get the right of discrimination against people based on religion, caste, age, physical disability, and skin color, which is unfair or illegal. The Equality Act 2010 takes the best steps to reduce discrimination in the workplace. This law is designed to make sure that there is no discrimination or discrimination-related activity taking place against employees or workers.discriminate

 The Human Rights Act 1998: The Human Rights Act 1998 talks about the independence and fundamental rights of everyone who is living in the United Kingdom or a resident of the United Kingdom. Inclusion and equality are the usual rights of a human being.

The Mental Capacity Act 2005: The Mental Capacity Act 2005 is an act of the parliament of the UK enforcing England to Wales. Its main purpose is to give a legal structure for the individual to make their own decisions. It is based on who can make their decisions for themselves.

The Care Act 2014: The Care Act 2014 is an act of the UK parliament. This act was established on 14 May 2014 this act was already introduced on 9 May 2013. The Care Act 2014 makes for the local authorities. This act was established to fulfill the individual’s requirements and their efficiency for public-funded care and support. The major aim of this act was to transmute the current 60-year-old law which is related to social care in England.

The Health and Social Care Act 2012: The Health and Social Care Act 2012 is also made by the parliament of the UK. It ends the responsibility for the health of citizens from the secretary of State for health, which the post had carried since the inception of the NHS in 1948. It gives the broadest reorganization of the format of the National Health Service in England to date.

Activity 4.2 c

Reflect on the two examples of discriminatory practices below. For each example, describe how you could address the discriminatory practice to encourage positive change. An individual you are supporting is unable to reach the counter at the checkout to pay for their shopping: 

In the first example, I would like to inform the staff member regarding the problem, and if the problems are not solved perfectly. If the staff members can solve the problem or are unable to support, then I will describe the problem to the store manager and then discuss this issue with HR. I have been required to use the company’s complaints process and have to outline that the problem is illegal and discriminatory.

You notice a colleague continuously refuses to support and treat an individual , and they have said it is because of the individual’s sexual orientation:

I would calmly describe to the colleague that it is unethical and illegal to behave like this and their activities are not good. This kind of person does not work accordingly to follow the rules of the organization, even though they concentrates on following the rules that are made by themselves. In this case, this kind of person must be aware of some special categories of lawmakers

I have also informed the HR manager and drew their attention to this issue and I would like to share my perspective with the HR manager that my colleague requires more training and learning that every person is equal. They describe them tat this kind of behavior as unacceptable throughout and not to be tolerated.

You can understand this by an example- the manager can provide the informative support that every employee requires.
