BAM5214 Assessment 2026

Project Based Learning

Pipelines are generally recognized as the safest, most efficient and cost effective means of transportation for oil and gas from fixed production facilities. Structural and high strength steels are the most commonly used materials for the construction of marine petroleum transport pipelines as well as buried onshore pipelines. However, it suffers from an inherent lack of corrosion resistance in an electrolyte such as soil or seawater. This requires that in order to prevent pipeline failure due to corrosion, corrosion control systems have to be designed and maintained such that a high degree of reliability is realized.

P1

As a corrosion engineer at ABC Engineering, you are being assigned to design the protection system for the pipelines with the following task:

P2 ,P3

1. You need to propose the protection system by providing all protocol requirement and  detailed  assessment for the pipelines with the submission of 10-12 pages Technical Report together with 1  P4 P5 recorded presentation. State any standard referred in your report and any assumption made.

The submission date for the technical report and the recorded presentation is on 5th April 2026 (Sunday) at 5.00 pm using U-LearnX platform.

Notes:- P1: authentic and realistic, P2: constructive and integrated; P3: suitable complexity, P4: promote self directed learning and life long learning, P5: stimulate critical thinking.

● Makes no iterative modifications to characterize performance.
● Uses no data from iterative testing to support detailed final design.
● Uses unsystematic iterative modifications (e.g. component / solution testing) to characterize performance. ● Testing data is not sufficient to support detailed final design. ● Uses sufficiently systematic iterative modifications (e.g. component / solution testing) to characterize performance.
● Testing data is sufficient to support detailed final design.
● Uses deliberate iterative modifications (e.g. component/ solution testing) to characterize performance.
● Justifies detailed final design using objective performance data from iterative testing
● Uses deliberate and effective iterative modifications (e.g. component / solution testing) to characterize performance. ● Justifies detailed final design using objective performance data from iterative testing.
Conclusions are not logical or are completely unrelated to the objectives, limited evaluation of significance and quality of results, recommendations are missing or irrelevant. Some of the conclusions are logical but are not necessarily related to the originally stated objectives, limited evaluation of significance and quality of results, recommendations are attempted but not justified or do not go beyond changing equipment/ solution. Sufficient conclusion and sufficiently related to the originally stated objectives, recommendations are sufficiently attempted and justified. Conclusions are logical, attempt to relate them to objectives, attempt to evaluate significance and quality of results, recommendations are clearly stated and justified, going beyond recommendations for equipment modifications Conclusions are logical and related to the objectives, clearly evaluate significance and quality of results; recommendations for future work are clearly stated and justified, going beyond recommendations for design or solution modifications .
