CSIP5402 Project Proposal, Planning & Project Management Coursework Brief

The intended Learning Outcomes (LOs) that are assessed by this coursework are:

• Critically appraise a given research method and justify its application to appropriate research problems.
• Write a research proposal that demonstrates an understanding of the research process and its application to a given research problem.
• Identify and critically discuss professional, legal, managerial and ethical problems associated with the development and execution of a research project.
• Critically evaluate the outputs of statistical methods, and communicate their significance and limitations in the evaluation of research experiments and evaluation studies.

When completed, you are required to submit your summative coursework:

1.  As a Word or PDF file via the Turnitin link set up within the CSIP5402 module’s shell.

If, for any reason, the links are not working on the submission deadline date/time, please provide them as an attachment to an email to the module leader by the specified deadline date/time, and a subsequent submission can be completed as soon as the facility is available again.

Coursework Specifications

Coursework Report

The report must not exceed 1,500 words, with a tolerance of plus or minus 10%. Content beyond this limit will be disregarded during marking. This word count excludes figures, tables, the bibliography, and Appendix A, which contains the scoping literature table.

Make sure the similarity report of your work is ideally under 15%. The similarity report is just a guide. If you are suspected of committing an academic offence, you will be called to a meeting with an Academic Practice Officer (APO).

The submission of work generated by AI tools, including but not limited to GPT, is strictly forbidden. Any instance of suspected AI-generated content will be subject to investigation and could result in referral to the Academic Practice Officer (APO)

Please submit the .pdf file via the Turnitin link set up within the CSIP5402 module’s shell.

Alternatively, you can submit a Word document (.doc or docx) or the PDF version of it. Your report should be written using a clear font (e.g., Arial, Times New Roman, or Calibri) with a minimum font size of 11 points.

The rest of this section highlights the elements to be included in the report structure.

The project should have a meaningful title that describes the proposed project, followed by the Author's name and surname, student ID, and module name.

Assessment Checklist and Declaration

Abstract: 

The abstract should:

• Introduce the project's topic and its timeliness
• Summarise the research gap.
• Describe briefly the method/s proposed/will be used in the project.
• Conclude with a statement reporting who would find the outcome of this project useful and for what. 

The Abstract should be no longer than 200 words.

Introduction: 

This section aims to introduce the topic to the reader, leading to the research gap.
The introduction should:

• Introduce the topic and its timeliness in a manner that is more extensive than the abstract.
• Include the research problem, aim and objectives.

Literature review:

• Discuss the relevant literature analysed in the Scoping Table reported in Appendix A. It should cite at least 15 relevant sources.
• Conclude with a paragraph that links the literature to the next section, “The Research Gap”. 

The Research Gap: 

In this section, you should discuss what is missing in the known literature. You can refer again to some of the literature to explain the gap.

This section should have a subsection explaining the research questions and/or hypotheses.

Methodology:  

Describe here the methods (qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods) you will use to investigate the research gap and answer the research questions posed.

Clearly outline the statistical methods you intend to use in your research and explain why it's appropriate for your research.

You need to demonstrate your understanding of how you will evaluate the outputs from the analysis.

Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications: In this section, you will discuss the research's ethical, legal, and social implications and possible mitigations.

Workplan: You should report the main tasks of the workplan for a 12-week project. You should also report and illustrate it with an appropriate project management approach (e.g., Gannt chart, PERT chart)

Conclusion: In this section, you should summarise the report content.

Reference: This is your reference list, and it is not counted in the word count.

Appendix A: This should contain the table compiled for scoping the literature, and it is not counted in the word count.
