As a graduate trainee on the management programme, you are required to produce and present a 15-minute staff training presentation (including questions) for employees in the housekeeping department of the Old English Manor Hotel. Your task is to produce a clearly structured training session for all housekeeping staff to assist them in their duties and to give clear examples of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) required for effective management within the housekeeping department of the hotel, aimed at improving the operation of the Rooms & Accommodation Division.
The Old English Manor Hotel is a fictional 100-bedroom AA Three Star Hotel in Warwick. It is particularly popular with weekend leisure guests who are looking for a comfortable clean environment in traditional surroundings. It has always prided itself on its high standards of cleanliness and efficiency however, in recent months, a number of complaints and poor reviews have appeared on TripAdvisor. As this hotel is fictional, obviously there will be no ‘live’ comments or complaints, however you may use and adapt appropriate examples to underline your work.
The presentation must:
References will need to be used on the slides, especially when discussing key theories or concepts (e.g., Motivation, Total Quality Management (TQM) and SOP’s), plus a full list needs to be presented on your final slide using the APA Referencing Style.
The training session needs to be presented using PowerPoint slides plus handouts to support the work. Your session will be presented to your tutor on an allocated day in Week 3. The need for presenting yourself in a professional manner and dressing in proper business attire is important for every tourism and hospitality operator. It helps to present a visual image and send a competent message during your presentation. Therefore, please ensure you are in smart business attire during the presentation, use cue note cards and practise and time your presentation thoroughly beforehand.
