6037BMS Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology CW2 Assignment Brief | CU

6037BMS Assignment Task

This assessment is an interpretive essay for which you will be assigned a particular topic.

The topic is based on a widely researched area of immunological conditions and their clinical features. For your assigned topic, you need to include several relative causes of each condition that are discussed along with any tests or relevant results that are applicable to the pathophysiology of the given condition and the differential diagnosis. You are required to include an algorithm of the main disorders in order to classify different branches of the disease and reach a conclusive diagnosis. The algorithm should contain relevant differential diagnostic tests.

This is a time-constrained assessment ie you have TWO weeks in which to answer the question assigned to you. The module leader will post a spreadsheet in the Assessment section on Aula to indicate which case study you should answer – please do NOT attempt to answer a different case study, as you will receive zero marks. Details of the case studies will be uploaded to the Assessment section on Aula on Monday 17th June.

The question will assess your understanding of the immunological aspects of a specific disease state and your ability to interpret case studies. The module workshops will teach you how to approach different case studies and indicate the depth of information required in your coursework.

Your work should be informed by the learning you have experienced within the taught components of the module, but should be supplemented by reference to relevant published literature (contemporary text books and journal articles). Please do NOT cite lecture or workshop material in your essays. You are advised to use at least 15 suitable references in your work.

Your work will be subject to plagiarism checks through Turnitin so you are reminded that you should synthesise information from sources and express this in your own words in your answers.

The word limit for this assignment is 1500 words and you should state your word count at the end of your work.

The word count includes the following:

  • The text of your written work
  • Reference citations and reference to figures and tables within the text
  • Descriptive paragraphs as Figure or Table legends
  • Narrative text included in Tables
  • Algorithm

The following are excluded from your word allowance:

  • The title
  • Figure and Table headings
  • Words, sequences and numbers associated with figures and tables (however extensive narrative text presented in Tables will count – see above)
  • Reference list
  • The word count details

Submission Instructions:

Your work should be submitted to the Resit or Deferral CW2 July 2024 (Resit/Deferral)  Turnitin link on the module Aula page.
Please submit your work in a Microsoft Word format.

Academic staff will not be responsible for removing submissions that are made in error. Therefore, please take care in checking your submission before uploading to the final assessment submission link. You may also utilise the draft link in the community pages for checking your similarity scores prior to the deadline.

The TurnitinUK system will record the date and time of your submission and cannot be over-written.

If you experience any technical problems when trying to submit your work, please consult Aula help via the question mark link. If these problems are experienced at the time of the submission deadline and cannot be quickly resolved, please capture screenshots as evidence and email these and your completed assessment to the module leader as soon as possible.

As this assessment is time-constrained, extensions to the deadline are NOT permitted.
