INTRODUCTION

This module is part of ‘Professional Life Practice’ – a programme of study that is formed from a series of interventions and activities that are integrated alongside subject specific modules. It is designed to facilitate opportunities to engage with professional practice and establish the professional currency that will drive enterprise and employability. The work you undertake in this module will also prepare you for your Work Based Learning module in Semester 2.

PROJECT BRIEF: Through workshops delivered during this module you will undertake the following activities:

  1. Research your industry and use findings to develop an industry map and personal career map. (weeks 1, 2, & 3)

  2. Conduct a personal and professional skills audit, identifying your strengths and areas for development. (weeks 1-3)

  3.  Identify and evaluate 4 different types of work-based learning experiences that will contribute to your current career goal. (weeks 1-4; week 9)

  4. Develop a set of personal career materials, including a career plan, an up-to-date CV, cover letter, and professional social media profile (LinkedIn). (week 7; week 9)

  5. Attend appropriate industry events, including (but not limited to) Careers Lab workshops, guest speakers and external events, reflecting on how these have developed or influenced your professional knowledge, skills and behaviours. (weeks 1-12)

  6. Undertake at least 2 professional skills development training courses, at least 1 that is relevant to your own discipline, and 1 that develops your soft and transferable skills (i.e. LinkedIn Learning courses). (weeks 1-12)

  7. Source/identify a person, mentor or company that you are interested in working with as part of your Work-Based Learning in Semester 2 and create a set of industry questions to discuss with them. Your discussion can be in person or online, but it must be recorded, transcribed or documented with screenshots. You should also refer to information shared by interviewees in your journal submission. (weeks 1-3 for the research; 4 & 5 for the prep; any week thereafter for the interview)

  8. Research the current social, ethical and environmental challenges facing your industry, to develop a personal, critical insight article or thought-piece. (weeks 1-2; weeks 9-12).

 

Assessment and  tutor feedback date

Marks and feedback will be released within 20 working days after the submission date.

Students who miss the deadline or fail this project may be required to complete a retrieval project which demonstrates that the learning outcomes have been achieved. 

Students should be aware that retrieval submissions are capped at a bare pass grade unless the extenuating circumstances panel uphold an evidenced application. 

The deadline for retrieval submissions will be determined at an Assessment Board
