Assessment Task:

You are a policy officer working for a housing association. You have been asked to submit a briefing paper to the board of your housing association board to improve the lives of social housing tenants.

The Board has asked you to consider three issues in the report:

1. To identify key improvements that can be made to housing management services in terms of improving the approach to equal opportunities and diversity (800 words);
2. To identify key improvements that can be made to reduce anti-social behaviour (800 words)
3. To explain the ladder of participation, the challenges of engaging ‘seldom heard’ groups, and good practice in terms of engaging ‘seldom heard’ groups (1200 words)

The total SS6058QA assignment should be 2800 words. You are allowed 10% under or over (2500-3100 words). The reference list is not included in this word count. It should be set out in a report format.

The assignment should include the following:

Part one. You should:

• Explain why some groups face disadvantage in accessing good housing services from social landlords, and why it is important for social landlords to address this
  • Provide at least two real-world examples of good practice among social landlords to improve their approach to equality and diversity. This should be real good practice from two named social landlords. The examples should be fully referenced. They should be in your own words- not cut and paste
  • Follow the 800 words limit (excluding references)

Part two. You should:

• Outline briefly what anti-social behaviour is, and methods to reduce anti-social behaviour
• Provide at least two real-world examples of actions that social landlords have taken to maximise benefits for their tenants. This should be real good practice from two named social landlords. The examples should be fully referenced. They should be in your own words- not cut and past
• Follow the 800 words limit (excluding references)

Part three. You should:

• Explain what resident participation is, with reference to Arnstein’s Ladder of Participation. This should be based on the original article by Arnstein on Weblearn
• Explain the challenges of engaging with ‘seldom heard’ groups, and effective methods of engaging with ‘seldom heard’ groups
• Provide at least two real-world examples of actions that social landlords have taken to involve ‘seldom heard’ residents in decision making. This should be real good practice from two named social landlords. The examples should be fully referenced. They should be in your own words- not cut and paste
