Assessment Details Coursework

Assessment 1

There is only 1 assessment for this module which is weighted at 100%.

The assignment for this module is a portfolio (paired or individual – student to choose). The portfolio will enable you to achieve the module learning outcomes and be able to:

  • identify and evaluate various contemporary issues on sport management.
  • Understand the role and influence of different stakeholders in the decision-making process of sport organisations
  • Propose solutions to contemporary issues facing the global sport industry
  • Assess the strengths and weaknesses of managing issues and making well-informed decisions based on evidence

Portfolio Submission (3000 words)

Full assessment guidance and the required template are available on MyBeckett (Assessment tab). You must read and follow the full guidance. The summary below is for quick reference only.

Your portfolio should focus on one contemporary issue in sport which is covered in the module (e.g. Social Justice, CSR, Corruption). You will analyse this issue at three levels—macro (global), meso (organisation/community), and micro (individual/people in sport)—drawing on academic literature and real-world examples.

Portfolio content (90%):

  • Introduction: Introduce your chosen issue, explain why it matters, and outline how you will explore it at different levels.
  • Macro-Level Analysis: Wider/global level – policies, politics, economics, governing bodies, media. Support with theory and literature.
  • Meso-Level Analysis: Organisation/community level – case study of a club, governing body, or initiative.
  • Micro-Level Analysis: Individual level – impact on athletes, coaches, fans, volunteers.
  • Summary & Recommendations: Key insights and 2–3 practical recommendations.
  • References: Use LBU Harvard style. Aim for ~20 high-quality sources.
Reflective Learning Log – appendix (10%): Use the template provided on MyBeckett.

Full details and guidance are available in the assessment tab on the MyBeckett module page (assessment brief, template, example etc).
