BM1003 Assessment:

This Assessment Pack consists of a detailed assignment brief, guidance on what you need to prepare, and information on how class sessions support your ability to complete successfully. You’ll also find information on this page to guide you on how, where, and when to submit. If you need additional support, please make a note of the services detailed in this document.

Your work should be submitted via the Turnitin link on Blackboard, the link will be visible to you on: 31st May 2024

Submission is on 24th July 2024 at 5pm Feedback will be provided by: 21st August 2024

You should aim to submit your assessment in advance of the deadline.

Skills practice Poster (50%) Learning outcomes fulfilled by this assessment:

  • identify key skills required of managers in practical environments
  • reflect upon their own skills in the development of their management career

BM1003 TASK

This poster should be 2,000 words minimum/ 3,000 words maximum and should include good quality images/graphics.

  1. identify key skills required of managers, using theoretically informed categorizations of skills.    Explain and explore which of these skills you currently possess, having developed them in previous experience (voluntary, sport, community, work or study etc.) and how knowledge gained in your degree will help develop those skills towards your future career in management.
  2. Identify 3 management skills covered on the Management skills element of the module (see list from the weekly content). Provide:
  • One in-depth example for each skill (3 in total across the poster) of where you have used the skill in your own practice and which aspects you have been successful in. Please detail what you did, how you did it and why you did it that way/how that was beneficial. Use theory including key terms, concepts, processes, frameworks, models, tools or techniques relevant to the skill to help explain your approach.

BM1003 Assessment 2 – Poster Marking Criteria:

Presentation of poster (10%)

Visually appealing with strong, effective presentation of sections/topics or arguments. Creative approach to graphics, headings, colour and space/curation of the ideas presented. Includes some variety in presentation (graphics, diagrams, infographics and text) to communicate ideas. Clearly referenced using Harvard standards with a references list

Management Skills and ‘About me’ insights (30%)

This should be well structured and concise to your developed skills, knowledge and competence so far, which have been developed through work experience, education and/or other scenarios (e.g., Sport, volunteering and community activity).

Scenario based examples (30%)

Clear illustration of your own practice of those 3 skills through structured scenario specific examples where you have used the skill. All scenario examples should be structured using the STAR framework.

Application of theory to skills practice (30%)

Theory should be applied throughout the example to illustrate where actions have been informed by knowledge/understanding. This should illustrate what you have done, how you have done it and why you did it that way underpinned with relevant theories (definitions, models, frameworks, tools/techniques, or key discussions) to help explain. All theory underpinning the examples should be fully referenced to relevant, reliable authors.

A marking rubric, which will be used to mark your work on submission, is available on the submission area of Blackboard

The poster can be produced using Microsoft Powerpoint and converted to a PDF document. Please ensure that your assessment submission is in the form of a PDF file onto Turnitin. When using Turnitin, ensure that you are using Mozilla Firefox to optimise the speed of submission.

Development towards this assessment will be supported by:

  • a session to get started on the poster in week 6. This will be followed every Thursday by opportunity to work on your assessment alongside a tutor and receive feedback in 121 appointments.
  • Examples of generic posters will be shared in workshops
  • Sessions on relevant theory are pre-recorded and available on Blackboard. At the end of each session there is a short overview of how the material covered in that session can be used for the assessment. Additional reading is also recommended for each topic at the end of each pre-recorded session.
  • There are workshop sessions and 121 meetings throughout the module which will give tips/help with creating the poster and offer regular opportunity for you to share your work with the tutor to receive feedback.
