SHN6023 Case study:

You will pick one case study and critically appraise contemporary health and social care policy and legislation to respond to the complexity of working with differing disciplinary groups, service users and organisations in the sector- in this case, you should focus on the case of the individual.  Then critically examine concepts and theories of mental health and illness across the life course, appraising causal factors and the impact of social determinants and inequalities faced by individuals experiencing mental health problems.

Appraisal of Policy & Legislation (40%)

• Critically evaluate contemporary health and social care policy and legislation related to mental health.
• Show how these are applied in practice across different professional groups, service users, and organisations.
• Highlight complexity, strengths, and limitations.

Examination of Theories & Concepts (40%)

• Critically examine theories and concepts of mental health and illness across the life course.
• Discuss causal factors and the role of social determinants and inequalities.
• Apply this knowledge to a case study, using at least two theories to provide a balanced, critical comparison.
