The Assignment Tasks
This Assignment CW2 assesses the following Learning Outcomes:
- Analyse and critically assess a range of economic, political, social, cultural, and legal issues within a region/country to undertake a comparative country analysis to make informed management decisions.
- Synthesise information and knowledge to make informed business and management decisions in international contexts.
- Master the terms, concepts, methodologies, and applications relevant to international management in different regions and be conversant in realities and debates of management in different contexts and regions.
- Apply management models to scenarios and synthesise information to enable conclusions to be drawn with a focus on management practices in various cultural clusters.
- Develop advanced and independent research skills in the application of qualitative research methods for comparative analysis purposes across national cultural contexts.
COURSEWORK 2 (CW2): INDIVIDUAL COURSEWORK REPORT.
The brief for this assessment is as follows:
Summative Assessment
Title: An investigation and comparison of management practice of a large MNC.
The module is assessed by 100% coursework. The second subcomponent (CW2) is an individual assignment.
CW2: An individual business analysis report (3,000 words) discussing management practice of a multinational corporation (MNC) in a particular cultural cluster (60%)
- The CW2 report is a 3,000-word (+/- 10%) individual assignment. In your report, you shouldanalyse the management practice of your chosen multinational corporation (MNC) hosted and operating in a particular cultural cluster with respect to practices in the home country of the MNC.
- Context: You are required to choose a geographical regionwith ONE particular ‘Cultural Cluster’ based on the GLOBE study (Anglo, Latin Europe, Nordic Europe, Germanic Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East, Southern Asia, OR Confucian Asia) and choose an MNC hosted &operating in your chosen Cultural Cluster. Your chosen cluster MUST be different from the home country of the chosen MNC. Your seminar tutor must approve the choice of your Cultural Cluster, geographical region, and the MNC.
- In this business analysis report, you need to research, analyse, and evaluate the management practice of your chosen multinational corporation (MNC) in the chosen cultural cluster as compared to practices in the home country of the MNC. In your report, you should analyse and critically assess a range of economic, political, social, cultural (cultural cluster), and legal issues within the region/countries to undertake a comparative countries analysis and their implication for the management practices of your chosen MNC. The focus should be on analysing the impacts of cultural clusters on international business. Discuss the MNC's existing international strategies, modes of entry, and management practices (leadership, communication, HRM, marketing operations etc), and propose a more effective international strategy for the chosen MNC.
General guidelines.
- Students must read a range of academic journals, databases, and key textbooks and references in the area. The use of websites as sources should be minimal, and Students should consistently support their work by citing and referencing a range of academic sources.
