Assessment Task

You are required to work on a small-scale, clinical exercise science research project based on a secondary data analysis. The data will be drawn from the UK Data Service and must be based on the Health Survey for England (HSfE) 2018 data set.

You will need to register with the UK Data Service, access the data, download the data and then answer
ONE of the following broad titles:

1. Diabetes status and the volume of physical activity (suggested variables diabtype and TVigMin)
2. General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) score and the volume of physical activity (suggested variables GHQG2 and TVigMin)
3. Hypertension status and the volume of physical activity (suggested variables hyptreat and TVigMin) Variations on these titles are permitted, so please liaise with the module leader for guidance

The Data

You can analyse the data in Excel, JASP, SPSS or R but it is advised that you import the SPSS file directly into JASP and analyse it there as this is what you have been taught. Please note that this data has missing values and factored into the analysis.
The Process

1.    Identify a research problem / issue.
2.    Review the literature related to the area (e.g. influence of physical activity on diabetes), but also the background to the data (i.e. HSfE)
3.    Develop a research question and aim.

4.    Gain an understanding of the method used.  This should include:

  • How the HSfE was undertake.
  • Process of extracting data from the UK Data Service

5.  Analyse your data accordingly.

  • Descriptive statistics
  • Graphical illustrations (figures and tables)
  • Inferential statistics

6. Prepare your presentation.
7.  Deliver your presentation.
