This course is at Level 6 of the National Framework of Qualifications. To receive an award at Level 6 you will be required to undertake self-directed learning after you complete the training course. This self-directed learning will typically include additional reading, research, self-reflection and preparation of your assessments.

This document contains important information about the assessment process and it is important that you read each part of the document carefully so you clearly understand what is required of you.

You are required to complete four pieces of work for your certificate. These are detailed below.
Ideally, your assessments should be relevant to your current or previous work environment, and practical work-based examples should be given to support your work. If this is not possible, you can use an organisation that you are familiar with, maybe through a volunteer role or a hypothetical organisation.
Pay attention to the required word count for each section and do not go significantly under or over the required word count (10% above or below is ok).
Pay attention to the formatting of your document – it matters! Use paragraphs and put headings in bold. Change the vertical spacing on your document to 1.5 or 2.0 (YouTube has how-to videos) to make your assignment easier to read.
Before submitting your assessment you should use a spelling and grammar checker and get somebody else to proofread your work. It’s much easier to spot mistakes in another person’s writing, and you can lose marks for careless mistakes.
Your work should show evidence of relevant reading around each topic and it MUST be clearly referenced and include a bibliography.
You must attend all scheduled sessions and actively participate in the course activities, discussions, and assignments.
Your presence and involvement are crucial not only for your own learning but also for the overall success of the group. Failure to meet this requirement may result in not being eligible to receive your certification, as consistent participation is a key component of the course’s assessment criteria.
To pass and earn your certification, you must meet the mandatory attendance and participation requirements.
This assessment focuses on understanding and explaining key ergonomic principles and their role in ensuring a safe workplace. You will also be able to showcase your ability to apply this knowledge to real-world situations to enhance workplace safety. Ideally, your assignment should be relevant to your current or previous work environment, and practical work-based examples should be given to support your work.
If this is not possible, then you may complete this task in relation to an organisation with which you are familiar. This could include experience working in a voluntary capacity.

On the last day of training, you will need to sit a one hour examination. In this exam, you will have 20 short answer questions to complete. You must answer at least 16 questions correctly to be successful in this assessment.
This examination will assess your understanding of three critical aspects of manual handling instruction. It aims to test your comprehension of the best practice approach for managing manual handling at an organisational level, ensuring adherence to current legislation. This involves testing your knowledge of regulatory frameworks and your ability to implement effective strategies for promoting safe manual handling practices in your workplace.
The questions will assess your knowledge of the spinal column, requiring you to identify its main components, recognise potential risks associated with manual handling and demonstrate your understanding of contemporary principles of back care.
The exam will also evaluate your grasp of ergonomic concepts in the workplace, testing your ability to describe these concepts. You will have to show your understanding of how organisations assess potential risks related to manual handling. The questions will finally test your knowledge on effective controls to mitigate and prevent these risks.

For your skills demonstration, you are required to design and deliver a 10-to-12 minute training session. This is designed to assess your practical application of instructional content and your presentation skills.
You must also guide a learner through two manual handling techniques, prompting them to demonstrate their understanding, and then offering constructive feedback. This is designed to assess your ability to evaluate and enhance the practical skills of others in the realm of Manual Handling. This recording should be 4-5 minutes in length.
Both of these demonstrations must be recorded and submitted for grading.
IMPORTANT* Videos must be continuous recordings, as if they are delivered in a classroom setting. Editing or stop-start recordings is not permitted and will not be graded.
