Assessments

The assessor is required to devise assessment briefs and marking schemes for the project and collection of work.  In devising the assessment briefs care should be taken to ensure that the learner is given the opportunity to show evidence of achievement of ALL the learning outcomes. Assessment briefs may be designed to allow the learner to make use of a wide range of media in presenting assessment evidence, as appropriate. Quality assured procedures must be in place to ensure the reliability of learner evidence.

Assignment 1 – Project 50%

Project  can be completed over 6-8 weeks

The project will provide evidence of learning for Learning Outcomes 1,2,4,5,6,7,10

The project will investigate Current legislation and how this relates to best practice for a home based service, covering:

• Roles and responsibilities of the child-minder
• Current legislation, national guidelines  and its implications for practice
• Importance of on-going training and professional development

Evidence for this assessment technique may take the form of written, oral, graphic, audio, visual or digital evidence, or any combination of these. Any audio, video or digital evidence must be provided in a suitable format.

All instructions for the learner must be clearly outlined in an assessment brief.

Learning Outcomes

LO1 Explore the role and responsibilities of the child-minder in relation to the provision of a quality service ensuring the well-being and holistic development of the child

LO2 Examine legislation and national guidelines relating to the care, education and well-being of children

LO4 Explain the importance of effectively engaging with children and their parents

LO5 Examine how a childminder can professionalise their service provision

LO6 Devise written policies and procedures for a childminding service

LO7 Document the implications of legislation for the child and child-minder

LO10 Assume full responsibility for interaction with children and adults expanding on current knowledge, skill and practice.

Assessment Criteria

Assignment 2 – Portfolio 50%

The collection of work will provide evidence of learning for Learning Outcomes 3,4,6,8,9

The learner will collate a portfolio/collection of work, which will include a number of written policies and procedures relating to best practice in a child minding setting.

The following topics should be included:

• Healthy eating
• Safety
• Behaviour
• Delivering and Collecting
• Illness
