The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of healthcare drivers and challenges, and produce a health informatics response in the form of an innovation.
There is one part to this assignment – a digital poster.
Word limit up to 700 words
Note: You don’t need to know how to create software for this assignment. What we want to see is that you know what kinds of problems your innovation can solve and how it works in solving those problems.
Citations: Use EndNote, RefWorks or similar to manage your references (much easier than doing it manually!)
Artificial intelligence: You may use Grammarly for English writing support. You may use AI to find literature (set it to ‘no summaries’ as you will only use AI to find the literature, not analyse it for you). You may use AI to get ideas. You may not use generative AI, e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, or CoPilot, to write the poster content. You must adhere to AI etiquette by declaring your use of AI.
Time management: We would like to finish marking your assignments before your exam, so manage your time well and get your assignment in on time to give us enough time for marking. There is no scope for extensions so plan your assignment logistics well!
Late submission: If you think you will be late (despite your efforts to submit on time), please let us know before the deadline. Check the late submissions policy here.
Digital health is increasingly ‘the way we do things’ in health, especially in clinical care. In the current fuel crisis environment, we’re faced with constraints on how healthcare services can be delivered across the motu. This is not an isolated crisis – there will be more crises of different cases in the coming decades. We need to change the way we work so that we can deliver the right care to the right people in the right place.
Design your innovation in response to this question:
How can AI be used to shift our focus from what can’t be done to what can be achieved by a healthcare service?
Create a poster that clearly showcases your proposed solution and the problem you’re solving in response to this question.
You will be provided with a poster template closer to the date.

Before you work in PowerPoint or similar software to create your poster, write the words in Word.
Here is the ‘abstract Download abstract’ I wrote for my poster.
Once you’re happy with the words, copy and paste them into the poster, move them around in chunks that make sense, and add images.
You’ll note in my poster that there are images for the Digital Health teaching team – that’s because we wanted people to contact any one of us. You’ll only have your own selfie and email address on the poster.
The references need to be added in a box in small font.
Use Vancouver for your references (saves word count and space).
You may use a separate document accessible via a QR code for your references.
Add your AI statement in small font to the bottom left corner of your poster.
People like to know how you used AI to develop your poster.
Here is a guideline to help you design your poster.
If you need more guidance search the internet for videos or articles that contain guidelines.
Submit your poster to Canvas for marking.
It will be automatically submitted to Turnitin as well, so check your Turnitin score before submitting and work out how you can write better for your submission.
This guide will be used by your lecturer and tutor as we mark your assignment. Have a good look at it. Use it to help you write your assignment.
Before you start working on your assignment, have a look at the marking guide. Your lecturer uses this guide when marking your assignment.
