MGT3122 Assignment Brief

Produce an individual report (PowerPoint) that presents a detailed strategic analysis of the assigned organisation. The aim is to determine the strategic fit between the firm’s external operating environment and its internal capabilities and resources. This assignment addresses module learning outcomes 1–5.

Format: PowerPoint (.pptx)

(80% of final grade)

Due: 12 December 2025

Length: 12 slides ±1 (NOT including cover page, table of contents, and references) Research: Use recommended sources introduced in the research workshop plus appropriate supplementary sources. All sources should be current, reliable and valid. Scope: If the firm is multi-business, focus on one specific business unit (choose the one with the most available information).

MGT3122  Detailed grading criteria

1) Depth & breadth of research (10%)

  • Macro analysis (e.g., PESTEL) and implications

3) Analysis of the firm (50%)

  • Resources & capabilities: identify and evaluate using a framework (VRIO)
  • Firm performance: financial and marketing analysis over 3–5 years
  • Competitor analysis: identify key competitors, compare strategies
  • Strategy: evaluate business-level and corporate-level strategies

4) Conclusion: Strategic fit (10%)

  • Interpret results of analysis
  • Judge whether firm’s resources align with its environment - State the firm’s strategic position

  • Visually attractive and professional layout
  • Clear data presentation (charts/tables)
