1. Assignment 

This individual assignment contributes 40% of the overall coursework marks. The assignment consists of ONE (1) question.

2. Instructions 

The assignment to be submitted on or before 15 September 2025 (Monday) 11.59 pm.

Late submissions will be penalised (5 marks per day late).
Submission is in the form of softcopy through Canvas.

3. Questions 

The Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) Guidelines launched today is one of the continuous efforts by the Government and the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) to empower employees and assist employers in optimising their human resources and operational costs. (TalentCorp, 2024)

Write a literature review that addresses the following aspects of the FWA:

a) Key features of the FWA.
b) The emergence of the FWA in contemporary employment relations.
c) Advantages and disadvantages of the FWA.
d) Regulation of the FWA.
e) Practices and challenges of the FWA.
f) The roles of trade unions in ensuring the effective implementation of the FWA.
g) Strategies for implementing the FWA that can equally empower employees while optimising employers’ human resources and operational costs.

Your review must focus on the Malaysian context, but you may also make comparisons with the context of other countries where relevant.

The literature may include sources such as journal articles, newspapers, government documents, legislation, court judgments, and other reliable references.

All references must be cited clearly and comprehensively according to the APA 7th edition referencing format. Only valid and credible sources are acceptable. The inclusion of fictional sources will result in a deduction of marks or any other penalty deemed appropriate by the instructor.

Your assignment report must incorporate the student declaration of generative AI use in academic work. (1500 words)

3.1 Objectives

This assignment aims to help you gain a clear understanding of an emerging trend in employment relations and to apply theoretical principles to real-world practice.

You will explore the relevant rights of employees, the management prerogatives and the role of trade unions connected to the assigned issue. Through your analysis, you are expected to form and justify your own independent views on the matter.

5. COURSEWORK EVALUATIONS

The coursework will be graded based on the following criteria:

Criteria 4 – Exemplary 3 – Proficient 2 – Partially Proficient 1 – Incomplete
Treatment of sources (20 marks) Evidence of wide reading, full, accurate and detailed references Some extra reading is evidenced Presence of references with relatively confined amount of reading evidenced. Subject Knowledge (70 marks) Student demonstrates full knowledge (more than required) by reflecting all points required with explanations, elaboration and adequate critical analysis on the same. The subject matter is approached based on the accurate points and authorities. Student is at ease with expected points and subject matter with satisfactory elaboration. However, lack of critical analysis of the same. Not all points and authorities are accurate. Student is uncomfortable with the information and is only able to cover the surface of the subject matter. Many points and authorities are inaccurate. Student does not have grasp of the information; student cannot cover all aspects as required by the examiner. Relatively very lack of accuracy of points and authorities provided in the answer.
Presentation (10 marks) Student presents information in a logical, interesting sequence which audience can follow. Student presents information in a logical sequence which audience can follow. Audience has difficulty following the presentation because the student jumps around. Audience cannot understand the presentation because there is no sequence of information.

Grading Details

Grading Bands are as follows:

A+ : 90 – 100 marks
A : 80 – 89 marks
A- : 75 – 79 marks
B+ : 70 – 74 marks
B : 65 – 69 marks
B- : 60 – 64 marks
C+ : 55 – 59 marks
C : 50 – 54 marks
C- : 45 – 49 marks
D : 40 – 44 marks
F : 0 – 39 marks

Note: Marking will be done based on impression, judgment and content.

6. COURSEWORK SUBMISSION

Students are required to submit the coursework via soft copy/electronic copy only via Canvas.

The file should be labeled with your Student ID No., Section No. and Course Code.

You should reference the essay using the APA referencing style, ensuring it is free from plagiarism and not generated by AI tools.

In addition, your response must satisfy the Turnitin plagiarism detection system, with a report that does not exceed 20%.

Your assignment report must incorporate the student declaration of generative AI use in academic work.

7. COURSEWORK FEEDBACK

All submitted coursework will be retained by the instructor. Once the coursework has been marked, students will be given the opportunity to view their assignments. The date and time will be announced later.

Feedback will be provided using the rubrics embedded in the Canvas platform, which encompasses the strengths, weaknesses, grades and areas for improvement.
The essay will be marked over 100 marks.
Decision made is final.
Note:

A student would be said to have passed the course if the student passes both the continuous assessment and final assessment components with a minimum score of 40% AND achieves a minimum of 50% for the overall mark.
