PRESCRIPTOR

Introduces students to the structure and legislative context of the healthcare system in Aotearoa New Zealand. Explores key concepts that underpin ethical, culturally safe service delivery and professional practice across a range of health roles.

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

1. Describe the structure and organisation of the healthcare system in Aotearoa New Zealand including delivery models, service functions, and professional roles.
2. Identify key health-related legislation and explain its implications for service delivery and professional responsibilities.
3. Discuss foundational theories of health systems, ethics, and professionalism informing service delivery and professional values.
4. Develop reflective practice in culturally safe interprofessional communication.

These requirements may include, but are not limited to, police vetting, immunisation, health and safety declarations, and fitness to practise. Completion of this element is mandatory to pass the course and must be completed by Week 12 of the teaching period.
