Learning aims and goals

The module aims to encourage and reward individual inventiveness and application of effort.  It also aims to allow students to have an opportunity to assimilate the knowledge they gained  in their courses and extend this knowledge this knowledge to new area of application; to  apply newly acquired knowledge and techniques to a specific problem using established  research techniques and methods; to determine the framework on the project according to a  set of specifications relevant to the subject study; to manage an extended piece of work by confining the problem within the constraints of time and available resources; to research  effectively the background material on the topic using a variety of sources and to develop  ability to conduct critical analysis and draw conclusions; to be able to develop a  framework/model of scientific relevance and commercial significance which is crucial for  future career and employability; to develop the ability to produce detailed specifications and  design frameworks relevant to the problem of investigation in the subject related to the  industry; to demonstrate the originality in the application of new knowledge and skills; to  report your findings and communicate the work to others by means of verbal and appropriate  documentation techniques; to raise awareness potential business development opportunities  in an area pertinent to the topic.

Projects Requirement:

You will need to be aware of all projects requirements, tasks and phases for you to plan  accordingly. Therefore you are required to:

• Construct a project from unstructured ideas through a thorough analysis of the  problem area
• Apply tools and techniques from taught courses  
• Acquire a systematic understanding of knowledge and a critical awareness of current  problems and /or new insights, much of which is at, or informed by, the forefront of  the specialist academic discipline.
• Justify the selection of a methodology and approach and their contribution towards  refining existing algorithms which is considered as a contribution to knowledge;  strong grasp of contextual concept.
• Understand the role of the deliverables at the various stages of the project cycle.
• Reflect on the relationship between design decisions and the degree of satisfaction of  user requirements.
• Demonstrate a sound interpretation of results to a wide range of audience, particularly in the absence of real life data.

Assessment criteria include: 

• Thorough definition and understanding of the investigated problem
• Evidence of appropriate literature review and a thorough reference list
• Detailed explanation and justification of the methodology and approach
• Demonstration of an understanding of the key concepts involved
• Demonstration of the skills necessary to carry out the work, including problem  analysis, application design and development, testing and evaluation and other  relevant aspects.
