ESSAY BRIEF

The Critical Reflection Report is a written report on your own practice and needs to be informed by theoretical and contextual research, rather than being wholly descriptive.

You will need to structure your report around three key elements:
1.    Methodology: what technique did you use for your explorations? Why are you using it? How does it suit the subject matter of your practice? Or have you chosen the technique first and have chosen the subject matter to suit that?
2.    Context: which other animators use this or a similar technique? Which other animators make work with similar concerns, using similar subject matter?
3.    Theory: what issues arise from your practice? What are the contemporary concerns of your practice? Which authors have written about the technique you use and subject matter you examine?

This report should complement and support your practice - your film, visual development and short form animated experiments - and draw upon relevant sources that serve to help you position and explain your style, technique, content and
interests. The aim of this project is to help you develop critical debates in relation to your own practice as an animator and to build links between theory and practice.

Learning Outcome

L01 Develop a body of experimental work, which provides a comprehensive framework to inform subsequent units and objectives.
L02 Develop critical, analytical and research skills that will enable you to write knowledgeably and creatively about animation practice.
L03 Develop specialist knowledge and practice in your chosen area of animation practice
