Question 1

Being able to relay feedback to an employee clearly is a crucial skill for any manager or supervisor.

Carl Rogers, a prominent American Psychologist, suggests that there are five categories of feedback that occur in daily conversations. Discuss three different feedback categories from the Communication Skills course. Write 50-100 words for each.

Three Feedback Categories:

1. Evaluative

Evaluative feedback involves making a judgment about a person's behavior, performance, or attitude. This can be either positive or negative, and it often includes personal opinions or assessments. While this type of feedback may provide clarity, it can also cause defensiveness if not delivered thoughtfully. Managers need to ensure evaluative feedback is specific, objective, and tied to observable behavior to foster growth and understanding.

2. Interpretive

Interpretive feedback is when the speaker tries to explain or interpret the other person's actions or intentions. This feedback can offer new perspectives but may be perceived as presumptuous if not handled delicately. It is important for managers to use interpretive feedback with caution, framing it as a perspective rather than a fact, and encouraging open dialogue to avoid misunderstanding or conflict.

3. Supportive

Supportive feedback is aimed at encouraging or affirming the individual receiving it. It focuses on maintaining morale, reinforcing good behavior, and building trust.

This type of feedback is especially important in team environments where confidence and motivation play key roles in performance. Supportive feedback helps to create a positive workplace culture and strengthens interpersonal relationships.

Question 2

Leaders are team builders and derive power from the attitude which the team hold towards them. The team leader is responsible for several key tasks. Of the six described in the Team Building course, choose three and describe why they are important. Write 50- 100 words for each.

Three Tasks:

1. Developing Team Spirit A leader must foster a sense of unity and shared purpose among team members. When people feel connected to each other and to a common goal, they are more likely to collaborate effectively. Team spirit improves communication, trust, and mutual respect, all of which are critical for problem-solving and productivity. Leaders can cultivate this through team-building activities and open communication.
2. Providing Direction and Motivation Clear direction and motivation are essential for team success. Leaders must communicate goals clearly, set expectations, and inspire team members to reach them. Motivation can be driven by recognition, setting challenging but achievable goals, and providing support. Without direction and motivation, teams may lack focus, resulting in inefficiency and low morale.
3. Conflict Resolution Conflicts are inevitable in any team setting. A good leader must identify and address conflicts early to prevent them from escalating. Effective conflict resolution
