Individual Assessment

Students are required to investigate and critically analyse a real-life business ethical issue involving a company, industry, or government-business relationship.

The assignment focuses on evaluating how ethical philosophies, corporate governance, and moral development theories influence decision-making in modern business environments.

Students are expected to connect theoretical knowledge with contemporary business cases and provide critical evaluation supported by evidence.

You are appointed as an Ethics and Governance Consultant for a business organisation that is currently facing ethical and governance challenges.

Your task is to prepare a professional analytical report evaluating:

  • The ethical issue faced by the organisation
  • Corporate governance effectiveness
  • Stakeholder impact
  • Moral and philosophical perspectives
  • Recommendations for ethical improvement

Task

Students must select ONE current or recent ethical business issue from the following areas:

  • Environmental sustainability

Students may choose any local or international organisation related to the issue.

Requirements

Students must:

1. Clearly introduce the selected organisation, industry, and ethical business issue.

2. Critically evaluate the ethical issue using relevant ethical philosophies, business ethics concepts, and moral development theories.

3. Analyse the effectiveness of the organisation’s corporate governance practices and ethical decision-making.

4. Discuss the impact of the issue on stakeholders, including the relationship between business, government, society, and the global marketplace.

5. Propose practical recommendations to improve ethical practices and corporate governance within the organisation.

Important Instruction

  • Students must select a real and current ethical business issue related to an actual organisation.
  • The issue selected must not be based on AI-generated examples or fictional business cases.
  • Students are encouraged to select organisations or cases that are less commonly discussed rather than well-known national or international brands.
  • Students may be required to provide supporting evidence such as screenshots, news articles, reports, photographs, social media posts, or other relevant proof related to the selected issue.
  • All discussions, evaluations, and recommendations must be supported with relevant ethical theories, academic references, and credible evidence.

Students are required to prepare a professional report proposing an ethical business policy or improvement plan for an organisation facing ethical or governance-related challenges.

The report should critically evaluate the selected issue and develop practical policy recommendations to strengthen ethical practices, corporate governance, stakeholder trust, and responsible business conduct within the organisation.

Students may select any local or international organisation related to current ethical business issues.

Requirements

Students must:

1. Introduce the selected organisation and explain the ethical or governance issue involved.

2. Analyse the causes and ethical challenges related to the issue within the business environment.

3. Apply relevant ethical theories, moral development concepts, and corporate governance principles in the analysis.

4. Develop and propose an ethical business policy or improvement strategy which may include:

Group Presentation

  1. Students are required to prepare a PowerPoint (PPT) or Canva presentation based on the Group Assignment (Ethical Business Policy Improvement Proposal).

  3. Students must attach the PPT/Canva link in SPARKS and ensure that the lecturer is given access to the link.
  4. The presentation should be conducted in PowerPoint or Canva format and must not exceed 15 minutes.
  5. Students are expected to present their critical analysis, ethical evaluations, policy recommendations, and strong arguments based on the relevant ethical theories, moral development concepts, and corporate governance principles discussed in the report.
  6. Students should relate their discussion with real facts, business cases, and available evidence.
  7. Creative elements such as campaign posters, infographics, awareness materials, slogans, or social media campaign designs should be included in the presentation.
