Please note that:
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the shift from traditional work models to remote working and digital transformation, which has significant implications for SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) as it changes the dynamics of labour markets, employment security, and workers’ rights.
Countries such as Singapore have introduced policies to support flexible work arrangements and digital upskilling, aiming to attract and retain talent in the labour market. However, the rapid transformation has also raised concerns about the digital divide, job losses due to automation, and the long-term sustainability of remote working.
(See https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/jobs/all-employers-in-singapore-must-fairlyconsider-flexi-work-requests-from-dec-1-under-new-rules, and https://www.ilo.org/publications/digitalization-and-employment-review)
(a) Analyse the impact of the post-pandemic shift to remote working on SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and any other two (2) relevant SDGs. Consider both the positive and negative impacts of this shift on the global workforce.
(b) Discuss the challenges and opportunities of the digitalisation of work, particularly in the context of developing countries. Recommend strategies that governments and organisations can implement to ensure that the benefits of digital transformation are equitably distributed and that workers are protected in a rapidly changing labour market.
(c) Debate whether the flexible work arrangement (FWA) will lead to a more sustainable and inclusive economy in the long term, with particular reference to two (2) relevant SDGs (except the SDGs that you discussed in question 1(a)). Consider factors such as environmental impact, social equity, and economic resilience in your discussion.
Note: The maximum word count for question 1 is 1,500 words. The quality of content is more important than the length of the report.
