Your individual task; As one of the founding members of a social business based in Cardiff, you have been asked to write an article evaluating your business idea as part of your application for a £20,000 business start-up fund. Competition for the funding is high and you will need to be both creative and innovative in putting together your evaluation.
The written evaluation of 2000 words should include an overview of the business, critical evaluate of your entrepreneurial strategy including the content, context and process of the business plan, a discussion of relevant sustainability issues and lastly a justification of the social aspect of the business which will be important for success.
Please note that this work is based on the formative group activity developed during the first five weeks of this course as condensed in your group’s Business Model Canvas. Your business idea must be agreed by your seminar tutor and be in the area of sustainability and climate change. (see - Case studies)
Word count (or equivalent): 2,000
This a reflection of the effort required for the assessment. Word counts will normally include any text, tables, calculations, figures, subtitles and citations. Reference lists and contents of appendices are excluded from the word count. Contents of appendices are not usually considered when determining your final assessment grade.
Academic literature: academic textbooks and journal articles. These can be sourced from MetSearch and Google Scholar for example.
Industry literature: Sometimes referred to as grey literature, i.e. non-academic sources e.g. credible sources such as websites, government/company reports, policy/strategy documents, marketing data, financial accounts
Application (use) means doing after being shown how or ability to apply abstract principles to particular known or novel situations.
Analysis (breaking down) is breaking complex whole into parts, and then looking at the parts in some detail and identifying relationship or patterns
Synthesis (combine) is to combine facts or ideas to create new patterns or structures derived from the original data Evaluation (judge) is to give the value of something, to state its strengths and weaknesses.

LO1 - Evaluate the main theoretical principles, which underpin the study of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
LO2 - Critically analyse the linkages between innovation and entrepreneurship within a variety of profit and not of profit organisations.
LO4 - Critically evaluating the intentions and motivations for sustainable entrepreneurship.
Ethical - Students will review the textual data in-line with the growing issues of ethics within business. They will be able to recognise and take into consideration issues relating to equality and diversity when making everyday decisions. Continually interrogate practice for its impact and relating that directly to their business idea.
Digital - Students will use digital tools for research purposes and manage data and online sources responsibly by distinguishing between popular concepts and robust evidence. Market research will be critical for this module to underpin both the identification of the problem and the solution arrived at. Evaluate the changing business world within a framework of AI.
Global - A variety of cultural aspects are included throughout the module a related to Entrepreneurship and strategic policy decisions.
Entrepreneurial - Students will creatively solve problems and develop opportunities using case study and workshops. Students will also be required to gathering information from a wide range of sources to make connections and develop new and innovative ideas. This is at the heart of this module.
