BS4T05 Assessment Description

A major piece of research work involving primary research, providing a coherent argument about the topic addressed and aiming to incorporate an element of originality in the argument and /or the evidence used to sustain it.

BS4T05 Guidance on the Format of Assessment

Note: Students are reminded not to include this assignment brief with the assignment submission

What should your dissertation include? 

  • Introduction to the topic / A definition of the issue or problem to be investigated and a clear statement of the research aim/objectives (around 1000 words)
  • A critical literature review with an overview of the relevant subject areas (theories, related studies) and clearly stated hypotheses or emerging themes (4000-5000 words)
  • Methodology - A clear presentation and justification of your data collection (method, sample size, timing, etc)  (around 1000 - 1500 words)
  • An efficient presentation and analysis of your primary data (around 1000 – 1500 words)
  • Discussion (around 2000 - 2500 words)
  • Conclusions and reflections (around 1000 - 1500 words)
  • References

However, please be advised that this may be subject to change in the event of Bank Holidays, University Closure or staff sickness. If there is something about the feedback you have been given that you are unclear about, please see your module tutor. 

Feedback Method

There will be written comments available on Blackboard.

Late Submission

You are allowed a further five working days from the submission deadline in which to submit; however, your mark will be capped at the pass mark (usually 40%). If you are a student who has an Individual Support Plan (ISP), your mark will not be capped. 

What happens if you don’t submit?

If you do not submit your assessment, or effectively claim Extenuating Circumstances, you will receive 0%. This may affect your chances of successfully passing the module. It may also be used as an indicator that you are not engaging in your course, and you may be referred to the Lack of Engagement Process.
