About this Unit 

Using information acquired from two of the case study company visits within the module, and other research material, you should identify the core elements of each (Part A), and critically evaluate the key drivers for change for both (Part B) companies (they MUST be companies visited during the virtual study trip). You must then focus on just one of the two companies you have begun to analyze, to conduct a deeper level of analysis and evaluation.  This must encompass a critical analysis of the critical success factors (Part C) within the relevant industry of that company including how the company has strategically responded to remain competitive. You should also include a critical analysis of the key resources and capabilities (Part D) of that company, to produce a final critical evaluation of how successfully the company has achieved competitive advantage, justified with evidence, based on their market performance over the last five years.

Task We Include

  • Part A: Based on two companies you have visited during the virtual study trip, identify, with evidence, the core elements of each. This should include defining the industry, company size and scale, business activity, market position, key financial indicators, structure, geographical reach, etc
  • PART B: Based on the same two companies in PART A, identify with evidence and critically evaluate, the key drivers of change within each of the industries. This should be a synthesis of the most important factors drawn from an external environment analysis. Consider, with evidence, how well each company has strategically adapted to these changes to achieve competitive advantage and what similarities or differences are evident within their approaches.
  • PART C: Focussing on just one of the two companies you have analyzed in PART A & B, identify with evidence and critically evaluate, the critical success factors (CSF) for that company to prosper, encompassing their strategic response to key competition, changes in the business environment and emerging customer expectations. Your critical evaluation should also consider how successfully the company has leveraged its strategies regarding CSFs, in order to gain a competitive advantage
  • PART D: Identify with evidence and critically evaluate, the resources, capabilities, and performance of the case study company you have focused on in PART C, over the past five years, and conclude on how these factors have contributed to their competitive advantage.
