Word Count

The word limit for this assignment is 2,500 words. You may exceed this by up to 10% without penalty, meaning that your submission must not exceed 2,749 words. If your assignment is 2,750 words or more, 5 marks will be deducted from your initial mark for each additional 10% above the word limit.

The word count includes all content within the main body of your work, including quotations and quantitative or qualitative data. It does not include the reference list, AI declaration or supplementary material presented in appendices.

Referencing

Careful referencing of sources is vital when making use of the work of others.  You are expected to follow the APA 7th  referencing conventions required by the Course.  These conventions apply to information taken from internet sources, as well as books, journals and lectures.  These are some of the points you should check before submitting your work:

are all direct quotations, from both primary and secondary sources, suitably acknowledged (placed in quotation marks or indented)?

  • have you provided full details of the source of the quotation, according to the referencing convention used in the Course
  • have you acknowledged the source of ideas not your own, even if you are not quoting directly from the source?
  • have you avoided close paraphrase from sources? (Check that you are not presenting the words or phrasing of others as if they are your own.)
  • if you have worked closely with others in preparing for this assessment, is the material you are presenting sufficiently your own?
  • have you listed the full publication details of your sources, formatted according to the referencing system required by the Course and typically located at the end of a submission?
  • for peer-reviewed journal articles, have you included the doi address (direct weblink to the paper) within that list?

3. Use of Artificial Intelligence

This assignment is AI Category 3: Selective

AI tools can be used in limited and clearly defined ways (per assessment) depending on the purpose of the assessment, e.g., exploring concepts, suggesting structure, summarising key ideas, etc. AI may also be used as a tutor in the process of developing an assessment.

For this assignment, you can, for example:

Use AI tools to help you summarise academic articles, extract key findings, and identify relevant literature for your assignment. This can save you time and help you focus on interpreting and analysing primary research

Use AI tools as a critical friend to provide grammatical and structural feedback on your writing. They can help you identify areas for improvement, such as clarity, coherence, and flow.

Use AI tools if you're struggling with writer's block, AI can help generate an initial list of topics on which to focus related to your own reflections about TikTok, its operations and formal/informal institutions.

AI can help you manage your sources, references and citations, helping you to adhere to the required academic style and format for APA 7th.

However, you cannot, for example:

Present the output of generative AI tools as your own work. AI should be used to support your critical thinking and development of draft materials. It is not permitted to use AI to produce the final assessment product.

Use AI to produce the evaluation or recommendations.

Use fabricated/AI generated references without checking the provenance and authenticity of the source. Always verify the accuracy of the information generated by AI tools, as they often produce biased or incorrect content.

For further information, see the course’s Statement on Acknowledging AI in Student Work BCSS and the university’s Student Guidance for using Generative AI in learning.

YOU MUST provide an AI use disclosure statement, which should be included at the end of your assignment but before the reference list. This includes disclosure where AI has not been used.

Declared AI use that falls within the scope permitted by this assessment brief will not negatively affect your mark. However, using AI and not declaring this can have significant consequences for your mark and your degree.

Where artificial intelligence has been used, the statement must identify:

The tool, model or version used
The date on which it was accessed
The purpose for which it was used (providing example prompts)
Confirmation that you checked the accuracy of any claims and located the original sources
Confirmation that the analysis and final writing are your own
Confirmation that no personal, confidential or commercially sensitive information was entered
Confirmation that you accept responsibility for the submitted work.

If artificial intelligence has not been used, state:

AI Use Statement: Nothing to declare.

5. How your assignment will be marked

Your assessment will be marked on how well you meet the requirements outlined in Section 2 and demonstrate the skills and knowledge identified in the assessment criteria. These criteria show what is expected of you in a Level 6 assignment and will be used to determine the overall quality of your work.

Please see the attached assessment criteria and feedback form for further detail about how your assignment will be marked.
On your course, you will receive a mark and feedback/feedforward for each assignment submission.\

If there is anything that you do not understand about the comments on your work, please make an appointment to discuss with the Module Tutor.

If you are uncertain about the implications of your mark for your degree, please contact your Personal Tutor. Your assignments, marks and feedback/feedforward will also be available to your Personal Tutor, who as part of your meetings will check your understanding of your feedback/feedforward, and help you identify areas and strategies for improvement.
