BIO683 Assessment 1: Placement Plan

Outline

The Professional Plan will help you to prepare for your placement.

Working through the required components will allow to develop a plan for the placement, demonstrate to yourself and supervisors that you are prepared for the placement, and the that the planned activities will allow you to achieve your goals.

Most of the information required to complete the plan is provided in the Introduction Session and Induction.

• We suggest that you start preparing the document before attending these sessions and note the information that is required.
  
  
• You can then use the Introduction Session to gather the information you need to complete your Placement Plan.
  
  
• The Plan should be included with information specific to the laboratory hosting you, and not generic information about the University (or random information from generative Al tools).

Instructions

1. Details of the planned placement

1. Your details: Your name and student number.

2. Host: Name of the organisation hosting the placement and contact for the person that will be primarily supervising you during the placement.

3. Location: outline the location(s) where you will be completing placement hours.

4. Work plan / timeline: outline the dates/times for the placement and times that you will use to complete the unit [minimum 40 hours (ANS307) and 120 hours (BIO683)].

5. Activities: A table that shows the timeline (dates) for the activities that you plan to complete for the placement. The plan should show how you will complete at least 40 hours ANS307/120 hours BIO683 and should include some additional sessions you would be available attend if you are unwell for a session.

6. Contingency plan: outline your plan to complete remaining hours if you are unable to attend one or more practical sessions due to illness, etc.

2. Host Organisation

Outline the core characteristics of the organisation hosting the placement, including:

1. Profile Brief profile of the organisation including in context of the industry in which it operates and the key stakeholdersfor the organisation

2. Priorities Outline the key priorities and values of the organisation

3. Professionalplan

1. Career plan: Briefly outline your professional/careerplan following graduation. What types of jobs or roles are you targeting?

2. Careerlearning goals: Outline least three career learning goals that will support you in achieving your career plan. These goals should be SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and associated with a timeline).

4. Goals for placement

1. Placement goals: Outline at least 3 aims/goals for the placement.

2. Alignment with (SMART) career plan: explain how your placement goals align to your broader career learning goals and career plan (i.e. what could you achieve on this placement that will help you get to where you want to go?).

3. Targeted skills: Are there any specific skills that you would like to focus on during this unit?

4. Alignment with host: Based on discussion with your placement supervisor, outline your understanding of the goals of the people/team hosting the placement? Include a statement about what are they hoping to achieve by hosting a student and what would a successful placement look like for the organisation. Comment on how well your goals align with that of the host organisation (i.e. are you on the same page?).

5. Seekingfeedback

1. What is your plan to seek feedback from your supervisor during the placement? How will this help you to achieve your goals for the placement?

6. Preparation for placement

1. Training and inductions: Are there any inductions or prior training required to undertake the placement? If so, what is the plan for you to undertake these prior to starting the placement.

2. Clothing and PPE: What clothing is appropriate for the placement? If any PPE is required, is this supplied by the organisation.

3. Safety: Outline any occupational health and safety considerations that need to be considered whilst undertaking this placement.

4. Biosecurity: Are there any biosecurity requirements that you need to comply with? What measures will you undertake to address biosecurity risks?

5. Travel plan: If you are travelling more than 100km - do you have travel plan and accommodation arranged?

6. Contact plan: What is the process for advising your supervisor if you are unwell or have a problem that means you can't attend on the day or need to leave early.

7. Gen Al declaration

1. Include a statementoutlining how generativeAl was used in preparing the placement plan.

Assignment criteria

Length: 1000-2500 words

Due date: Aprroximately2 weeksafterthe Introduction sessions (Week4)

Submission You may upload your Placement ProfessionalPlan as a Word or PDF documentfile.

Assessment weighting 25% (Note: This assessment should be completed to acceptable standard BEFORE starting the placementand a pass mark for all items/criteria in this assessmentis required to pass the unit.)

Grading This assessmentis graded on a pass/fail basis. Each section of the assignment must be completed to adequate standardto pass the assessment
Generative At Generative Al and Grammarly can be used to refine your written communication but the content and concepts discussed must be your own work.
