Percentage Grade (Applied Core Assessment). You will be provided with an overall grade between 0% and 100%. You have one opportunity to pass the assignment at or above 40%. 

Assignment Task

Dissertation/Project Report Structure and Formatting

The dissertation/project report should be presented to a high standard. Your Module Leaders will provide you with samples of dissertations/project reports and you are advised to view them to see what such a final dissertation/project assessment looks like. 

The following structure is recommended:

1.    Front Cover Page (Appendix 4 in Handbook )
2.    Title Page (Appendix 5 in Handbook)
3.    Acknowledgement
4.    Executive Summary or Abstract 
5.    Table of Contents and Page Numbers
6.    List of Figures and Tables
7.    Chapter One – Introduction: Research Topic, Research aims and Objectives. Why is it important to conduct the research? The justification should be clearly argued on the bases of theory (the literature) and business.
8.    Chapter Two – Literature Review
9.    Chapter Three – Research Methodology and Methods
10.    Chapter Four – Data Findings and Analysis
11.    Chapter Five – Conclusions and Recommendations (where appropriate)
12.    References
13.    Appendices: This must include the research instruments like a questionnaire and interview guide. It should also include your ethics certificate (Any dissertations submitted without going through the ethical approval process and that have not received ethical approval will be given a fail mark of 0) and meeting diary. In some cases, a sample of your interview transcript can be needed

Assignment Guidelines:

• Write a coherent dissertation as a response to a business issue.
• Review relevant literature and demonstrate a critical way to analyse it.
• Design and undertake relevant research, collect data and demonstrate research skills
• Analyse valid and reliable evidence to draw sound business conclusions. 
• Produce recommendations for further research and/or practising managers. 
• Work independently, identify research problem and demonstrate initiative.

Examples of ways in which AI tools might be used include (do please speak to the staff teaching on your module for further guidance as this list is not comprehensive): 

• Inspiration: using AI tools to generate research questions, prompts (including reflective and creative prompts), search terms, key words, or means of inspiring ideas, such as: images, sounds, short pieces of music, short pieces of text, or quotations. 
• Planning and management: using AI tools to suggest a title, structure, subheadings, or themes, to generate templates, to suggest processes for task management, or to generate prompts to assist thinking through assessment structure or task management. 
• Sources and data collection: using AI tools to search, generate, or suggest sources, or to generate quizzes, polls, or questionnaires to use or adapt for data collection. 
• Summarising and consolidating notes and sources: using AI tools to summarise sources or notes, or to consolidate notes, images, data, programming code, or other materials from multiple sources into manageable blocks or other useful document formats. 
• Analysis: using AI tools to analyse anonymised data (qualitative or quantitative), to find themes, patterns, or motifs in the work of others, or to generate prompts for analysis. 
• Composing: using AI tools to generate images, text, music, programme code, or other materials. 
• Translation: using AI tools to translate small sections of your written or recorded work into the language(s) used in an assignment 
• Presentation: using AI tools to present data in an accessible format such as by generating, graphs, charts, tables, slides, images, word-clouds, animations, or captions.  
• Checking: using AI tools to proofread or check work, to generate prompts for proofreading or checking work, or to suggest improvements and feedback on work. 
• Other: this list is non-exhaustive and AI will develop and change over time, therefore it is important for staff to keep up to date with uses of AI both in their discipline and in the context of assessment design. 
  Limitations on use of AI
• While considered use of AI tools can be beneficial, overuse can limit the development of your own critical analysis, research, evaluation, content creation and other academic skills. In using AI also be mindful that:
• Content generated can be incorrect and so needs careful review.
• AI tools can amplify existing stereotypes and bias.
• Expected behaviours
• Review your module assessment brief to ensure you understand the expectations for using AI. If in doubt ask your module leader.
• It is your responsibility when submitting assessments to make it clear when you have used AI, ensuring it is appropriately acknowledged/referenced.
• Where you have used AI do check for accuracy of information against reliable sources using Locate, the library database for example.
• Do ensure all work you submit is your own.
• Do not upload any personal or confidential information to AI tools.
• Keep a record of the processes undertaken to complete the assessment task; you may be called upon to evidence, through an interview or viva, how you have undertaken the requirements for the assessment.
