Overview Continued:

Week 2 - Applying for a role.

The various projects listed on Canvas feature several roles (e.g., Project Manager, Test & Safety Engineer, Design Engineer). You should:
-Read and understand the requirements of each potential project
-Read the requirements of each role
Once you are familiar with the above, you should apply for a role or be appointed by the team (1st choice and 2nd choice) asap. The module leader/team will allocate an appropriate role to each student, based on their preferences and skills, or what vacancies are left once applications have been received.
All role applications should be submitted via Canvas by the end of week 2/3 using the appropriate form. You may have already been randomly allocated into Teams of 4-6. Roles will be assembled and published by mid- week 3/4. Each team needs a Project Manager as this is a key role. Roles will be allocated according to ‘best fit’ criteria based on the content of application forms and business necessity.

Week 1/2/3 – Meet your team and start work on selecting a project.

From week 2 you should start meeting up with your team and select the team’s preferred list of potential projects and submit the team’s Project Application Form.

Week 2 Onwards to the end of semester 1

The module will begin with Digital Design, to develop CAD and engineering drawing skills. Ending with submission of your Digital Design Coursework.

Semester 2 – meet your team and start work on the project requirements

Mix of guided learning topics will be covered each week, and self/team directed project work within the module sessions. You will also start work on the project as per:
-Projects requirements
-Your role description
-All procedures relevant to your job description
-And according to your Team’s / Project Manager’s plan of action.

End of Semester 2

End of semester2, marks the end of the module and the end of the project. Note: The group presentation/poster may take place in front of a
‘Client/Industry’ event.

Submission:

What:

  • Your Specialist Role submission document and supporting evidence
  • Semester Milestone logbook submissions
  • Production of your Group Project - Product Design Specification (PDS) Proposal & Poster Presentation
  • Optional, Group Representative Element Design/Manufacture Physical Prototype outcome, submission document and supporting evidence.
Where: Canvas / physical inspection When: TBA

Important: you must pass your coursework to pass the module.

Submission of work

Your completed work for assignments must be submitted on or before the due date. You must keep a copy or backup of any assessed work that you submit. Failure to do so may result in your having to repeat that piece of work.

Penalties for late submission of formative / supportive coursework

Once the portal for these assignments closes, non-submission will result in a zero recorded for that assignment. If you have a valid reason for requiring an extension you must request an extension from the module leader, in person.

ANY late logbook submission past stage gates (without valid cause) will result in 0 marks being allocated to that section of the coursework.

Procedure for requesting extensions on Summative Assessments Only (Those with a Gold Star)

Standard University arrangements apply. If you have a valid reason for requiring an extension you must request an extension using e:Vision. Requests for extension to assignment deadlines should normally be submitted at least one week before the submission deadline and may be granted for a maximum of seven days (one calendar week).

Retrieval of Failure
A pass of 40% or above must be obtained overall for the module.
Where a student fails a module, they have the right to attempt the resit assessment(s) once, at the next resit opportunity (normally July resit period). If a student fails assessment for a second time, they may have to repeat (i.e., RETAKE) the module.

Mitigating Circumstances (also called Extenuating Circumstances).
If you are unable to meet a deadline or attend an examination, and you have a valid reason, then you will need to request via e:Vision Extenuating Circumstances.

Feedback of assignments

You will be given feedback when you demonstrate your work / via canvas.
