Assessment Title | A Case Study on Business Sustainability in Packaging |
Task A: Individual Presentation Brief
You will be provided with the case study “Packaging is Everything: A Case Study on Business Sustainability”. More and more companies around the globe are working to re-engineer their products, business models and core processes in pursuit of “sustainability.” Even as governments, not-for-profits and other institutions work to improve environmental and societal metrics, many feel that it is the private sector that holds the most potential for radical improvement due to its sheer size, its impact on everyday life and its propensity for wealth-creation via innovation. The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) offer an expansive set of priorities and targets for public and private sector players alike. Though sustainability was not originally a core goal for SCG Packaging at its earliest stages, it soon became an integral part of the venture’s organisational DNA. By applying the theories presented by the teaching team, you are required to carry out a 15-minute presentation to address the following:
Use SCG Packaging as a business case study to explain
Who is SCG Packaging, and what role does this company play in the circular economy?
What are three business practices aligned with the Triple Bottom Line that SCG Packaging could adopt to strengthen its sustainable strategic position?
What is the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) sustainability reporting framework? List three items SCG Packaging may address in their sustainability reporting.
Reflect on how a process or product you know of could be reengineered in the pursuit of sustainability.
Please begin by reading and comprehending the case study provided, titled ‘Packaging is Everything: A Case Study on Business Sustainability’ and refer to the questions provided above. You may incorporate information from other reliable sources; however, the case study material provided should be your first reference point.
You will be required to demonstrate a managerial level of communication of a complex, multifaceted problem. The presentation provides an opportunity for individuals to develop independent leadership qualities by demonstrating critical understanding of the challenge.
Please refer to the marking criteria matrix in the module handbook to understand the criteria upon which you will be assessed.
