Section 1: Introduction

The Business Management Fundamentals (CW1) individual assignment represents 50% of your module mark. It is an individual assignment in which you can demonstrate your mastery of the intended module learning outcomes (IMLOs). Your submission is based upon one case study provided for you.

PEST Case Study 

Create a written report (Situational Analysis Report) based on the case study provided that meets the assessment criteria listed below. These criteria originate from the IMLOs.  Possible marks for each task are shown below (section 2) and on the feedback sheet.

Section 2: Overview of Assessment

This assignment assesses the following module learning outcomes / criteria:

• MO1 Understand the importance of business organizational structures and their impact on efficiency and effectiveness.
• MO2 Apply critical thinking skills to analyse real-world business management scenarios and follow business ethics.

You are studying for an honours degree; so, your assignment needs to adopt appropriate academic standards. Use the gateway link provided by UWE’s Study Skills landing page. 10% of the total assessed product mark is allocated to adopting appropriate academic standards.

You are allowed to make use of Generative AI to Research your assignment. The direct answers from Generative AI are not advisable.

The assignment requires you to write a Situational Analysis Report (briefing note) with the body no longer than 2000 words plus executive summary of no longer than 200 words and references list. To be submitted as a MS Word or Acrobat (pdf) document through Blackboard.

This is an individual assignment. The assignment is worth 50% of the overall mark for the module.

Working on this assignment will help you to develop your ability to identify and communicate the business implications of business management to senior managers of organisations.

Section 3: Task Specification

Brief: The board of directors wish to develop a strategic plan for the company (case study) focusing on the medium term (10 years). You are a business consultant; you have been contracted by the CEO of the company to write a Situational Analysis Report for her which will help in developing future strategic plans for the company. She expects the topic to be raised at the next board meeting and needs to have a clear understanding of the external environment in which the company operates. Your report will help key stakeholders understand what needs to be addressed with any challenges that may arise. She has asked you to use the PESTLE framework to structure your analysis. Therefore, you will need to consider and analyse (briefly) the following key external factors that influence the organisation:
• Political factors
• Economic factors
• Social factors
• Technological
• Legal factors
• Environmental factors
Qualified assumptions can be made if they relate to your organisation and are placed within the context of the task (remember to reference key assumptions as this will validate your analysis, academically).

Assessment Content

In line with UWE Bristol’s Assessment Content Limit Policy (formerly the Word Count Policy), word count includes all text, including (but not limited to): the main body of text (including headings), all citations (both in and out of brackets), text boxes, tables and graphs, figures and diagrams, quotes, lists.
