P18763 Level 7 Module Handbook for Contemporary Topics in Applied Linguistics 2023/24

Module Aims

This module enables students to explore a topic or topics reflecting long-standing and emerging developments in the broad field of  Applied Linguistics. 

1. Expand students’ knowledge of topics of current interest in the broad  field of Applied Linguistics including Applied and Forensic Linguistics, Intercultural Communication and TESOL 

2. Enable students to relate significant contemporary topics in the field to specific situations and contexts in their own experience. 

Module Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to demonstrate:

1. A systematic understanding of current topics in the broad field of  Applied Linguistics including Applied and Forensic Linguistics,  Intercultural Communication and TESOL for students’ professional practice and development. 

2. A comprehensive practical understanding of specific topics, gained by relating them effectively to relevant situations and contexts. 

3. Critical consideration of the place and significance of specific contemporary topics in Applied Linguistics, Applied and Forensic Linguistics, Intercultural Communication and TESOL, to students’ areas of study.
