You will be required to critically analyse a safeguarding, advocacy or empowerment decision based on a given scenario. Critically examine the role and responsibilities of the nurse in safeguarding people across the lifespan elucidating key concepts, policy and law that influence decision-making. 

2. Demonstrate the following skills and abilities 

Risk assess and critically evaluate situations where there is risk to an individual or group demonstrating sound judgement and articulate professional responses according to your field of study.

Your critical incident analysis will be specific to your field of study and is aimed at exploring the impact this has on your development as a student nurse. You are required to select an example from the provided scenarios (or self-selected), with a safeguarding situation in practice in which a decision was made about a patient or service user. Once you have identified the safeguarding incident in the scenario, you should write an analytical account with the following elements: 

• Introduction (100 words)
• Context of your practice experience/ Identify a safeguarding incident (scenario) (200 words)
• Critical analysis of the safeguarding decision, related to key literature and evidence (300 words) 
• Critically analyse factors that may impact on people's welfare or subject them to potential risk/ clearly articulate the actual or potential harm(s) to a person or group (500 words) 
• Critically analyse the role of the nurse in safeguarding people and respecting rights, autonomy and confidentiality (500 words) 
• Explain the implications for your own future practice— specific to your field (250 words) 
• Conclusion (150 words)

Detailed guidance of NUR031-3: 

It is vital that you provide a critical incident based scenario from your field of nursing- safeguarding related. We have provided some examples you may use, but please feel free to provide one that you may have reflected upon and do check with your tutor if it is an actual incident. 

• You need to ensure you provide an analysis of the incident and the critical aspects of this decision for patient and service user safety, experience, and wellbeing as well as risk management and support this with appropriate theory and literature from within the unit and your own additional reading. 
• You need to critically analyse the potential 'risks' and 'harms' on the individual, therefore, you will need to explore the appropriate literature available, for example, policies, journal articles that will inform thi! analysis. You need to ensure you critically analyse the role of the nurse in respect of the scenario being presented ensuring you acknowledge the NMC Code (2018) and consider the ethical principles involved.
• You should evaluate your reflection of the impacts of your analysis with literature and analyse the impacts this will have on your own future practice.
• You should discuss and reflect on how your analysis could give new understanding in safeguarding practice and offer recommendations for your own development.
