You are expected to submit a 3000-word individual written assessment which is weighted at 100% of the module.

This is marked using the University of Sunderland generic undergraduate marking criteria and demonstrates that you have met all learning outcomes (LOs).

In the assessment, you are to choose a policy/guideline that is related to your clinical practice (field)  (e.g., diabetes, elderly care, neurology etc) from a renowned national/international organisation NICE, WHO, SIGN, etc.

You will critically discuss the outline about evidence-based practice in healthcare and clinical application (as per the ‘introduction outline’). You will then be expected to critique two articles -one quantitative and one qualitative- that support your chosen guideline (you may potentially find these  in the reference list at the end of the policy) or use other articles that relate directly to the chosen clinical area.

Assessment outline:

Introduction (200 words suggested)

 Introduce the topic of your study and outline its significance (briefly)

 Highlight what will be covered within the Critical Analysis section

 Introduce your chosen studies and the critical appraisal tool(s) you will be using eg CASP  Discussion (600 words suggested) - LO1, LO2, LO4

 Critically analyse the rationale behind the policy (why and how was the policy/guideline  established)

 Give background/statistics to your policy area eg diabetes, elderly care etc.   Give a brief critical overview of how the chosen policy is utilised within your area of practice and critically discuss what barriers there may be to applying clinical guidelines in practice e.g cost etc.

Critical Analysis (2000 words suggested) - LO3, LO4

 Select two articles (one quantitative and one qualitative article) that support your chosen  policy/guideline (you may potentially find these in the reference list at the end of your  selected policy/guideline) or use other articles which relate to the chosen clinical area

 The articles MUST be critiqued separately and appropriate subheadings can be used eg  Quantitative Study Critique and Qualitative Study Critique

 Each article should be clearly identified: include the title, type of research, hyperlink and a  brief introduction and explanation of the research type

 The critique of each article should include a critical discussion of each of its sections e.g., Title,  Abstract, Introduction/Background, Methodology, Results, Conclusion, Discussion,  and Recommendation and should show how your chosen critiquing tool has been applied.

 Each article should be given equal attention
