Introduction 

The effective management of people is critical to the success of the firm. This module examines the various objectives of and approaches to HRM. It highlights several key HRM policies, describing and critically evaluating their impact on people. The module focuses on several contemporary issues in the management of people, for example, the need for workforce flexibility, the importance of worker wellbeing and the contribution of HRM to business ethics.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module students should be able to:

  • Define HRM as a distinct managerial perspective;
  • Evaluate the role of HRM in the contemporary workplace;
  • Describe the key functions of HRM;
  • Critically evaluate the effect of policies and practices associated with HRM;
  • Demonstrate awareness of the complexities of HRM in companies operating within diverse contexts.

Assignment 1 Managing GenZ in a modern workplace Essay

As a recent MSc graduate, you have just joined the human resource department of a large MNE and you have been given the opportunity to write an article for the internal company magazine to critically address and discuss a current HRM challenge.

Your idea is to focus your article on the question of how to successfully manage and integrate GenZ workers in the organization. 

Recalling conversations with fellow students, you understand that the values of GenZ workers are very different to previous generations. This does not only have an impact on what they expect from a job but also how they engage in the workplace.

In the article, critically discuss what that means for managing GenZ workers in a modern workplace. 

  • Think of a creative title for your article.

  • Provide a clear structure of your article with introduction (10% of word count), main body (80% of word count) and conclusion (10% of word count). Please note, the word allocation is a rough guideline.

  • As this is an article for the internal company magazine, ensure to include only most recent information, research and developments.

  • Consider your target audience as this magazine will be read by all employees as well as the senior management team of the organisation.
