Assessment Instructions

To demonstrate that the module learning outcomes detailed above have been achieved, you are required to prepare and submit the following.

Poster: Design a creative poster that includes visual content on:

  • Personal leadership competencies
  • Preferred or potential leadership style
  • Experiential and employability experiences on the module
  • Core values
  • Career vision and aspirations
  • Career plan (3 year)

Reflective summary: Provide a reflective summary, 1,500 words that explains the visual content of your poster:

  • Reflect on personal leadership (competencies and style)
  • Reflect on what benefits you have gained from undertaking experiential activities on the module (you should reflect and provide evidence on a minimum of 2 events undertaken in the experiential week)
  • Reflect on how the focus on careers event (s) supports your career vision, aspirations and/or plan

Assessment Criteria

To mark your assessment your tutors will use the following assessment criteria,

  • Personal leadership 30%
  • Experiential activities 30%
  • Career vision, aspirations and plan 20%
  • Poster structure and visual content 15%
  • Academic referencing/proof reading/appendices 5%

Guidance: The written reflective summary should have three distinct sub - sections: personal leadership, experiential activities, career vision, aspirations and plan. Relevant mentoring and self-development literature should be used to support reflections.

Criterion: Poster & Reflective Summary (40% Weighting)Personal leadership (30%)
Identify and justify three personal leadership competencies. Discuss your leadership style or how you are developing it using results from 3-5 self-assessment tests. Support your justification with relevant leadership literature

Experiential activities (30%)
In this section, reflect on experiential activities and how these support your professional career development. Use reflections from two activities undertaken this semester e.g. Bacchus Mentor Launch, Focus on Careers and any experiential activities/field trips where relevant. You can also refer to relevant guest talks.

Career vision, aspirations and plan (20%)
In this section, reflect on your career vision, aspirations, and plan after the master’s programme. Use evidence from career vision and strategy exercises to support your justification and critical analysis.
Poster structure and visual content; referencing/proof reading/appendices (15%) The poster should use easy-read font text and size for electronic format. Visual images and graphics should be creative, well organised, and relevant to the topic. Consistency in style, such as colour scheme and graphics should be innovative and memorable. Like a vision board, the poster should clearly convey ideas and aspirations through the visuals used.

Academic referencing, proofreading/appendices (5%)
You need to conform to the Harvard referencing standard. Use a range or references that are relevant and varied. Visual content on posters must be acknowledged in the reference list and adhere to any image copyright use where relevant.

Presenting Coursework for Assessment

Your assignment when submitted should not include your name – we use a system of anonymous marking to reduce the risk of any unconscious bias. For some authentic assessments, there may be an exception to this, so please confirm with your Module Leader.

Your assignment must be presented in the following format:

The authentic and essential requirements for this piece of assessed work are;

  • Include a title page providing the name of the assessment number of word count for the reflective summary
  • Use the report format the written reflective summary – include a contents page, you can use headings or subheadings and diagrams or tables (up to 3 maximum) – further guidance will be provided in the lectures and seminars
  • It must be word-processed in 11-point Arial font and double-spaced
  • All pages must be numbered
  • Complete your assignments within the 1,500 word limit specified in the assessment brief for the poster
  • This assessment will not be marked anonymous as it is a personal reflection with contextual evidence. see upload instructions below
  • You can write your reflective summary in the 1st person using “I”
  • You can submit up to 3 appendices with the reflective summary
  • The poster should be attached as an appendix to the reflective summary and uploaded as one document to the Turnitin Dropbox.

Assignment Length / Equivalent

Whilst we acknowledge that learners will prepare and produce assessments in different ways and at different paces, an indication as to how much time it will take you to prepare, produce, edit and submit this assessment is detailed below.
The length of an assessment is limited to 1,500 words. The specified word count refers to the main body of the reflective summary. The word count does not include the front cover/ title page, table of contents and reference list and appendices provided. The word count does include in-text citations.

< Words> that exceed the maximum allowed by 10% (either way) will not be marked. If in doubt, you should discuss this with the Module Leader before submission. This assignment takes 30 hours to complete.

Submission Instructions

All dropboxes are located in the Assessment section on Module Moodle page as follows: 

There will be two submission dropboxes:

1. Draft drop box - for student use only, to check your Turnitin SI% Report

This is for student use only to produce a personal Similarity Index % (SI%) report. You can upload a section of text from your eportfolio e.g. reflection or written draft summary of a module. Please note, you cannot upload the google site in its entirety through Turnitin. This box will not be assessed, nor will it not be viewed by the module leader. You should upload a draft version of your assessment. This should be done well in advance of the submission deadline. These submissions are not returned to the Turnitin repository, i.e. are not stored and therefore should not cause a future match.

2. Final submission drop box - for most submissions due on the (stated) submission deadline indicated in the coursework summary information above.

3. Exceptional Circumstances and Inclusion Support (EC/ISP) final submission for approved extensions all coursework will be submitted in the Final submission dropbox for the approved extension date.

Poster: Upload an electronic version of the poster and reflective summary to the TURNITIN dropbox in Moodle by Week 13, 1PM on TUESDAY 5th May 2026. As this is an electronic file submission, give the file, MLD Poster _module HOTO 7016

  • You can submit up to 3 appendices with the reflective summary
  • The poster should be attached as an appendix to the reflective summary and uploaded as one document to the Turnitin Dropbox.

How Your Work will be Marked

Once the submission date has passed your module tutors will begin to mark your work. There are several phases to this which ensure fairness is maintained across the whole team including a pre-marking calibration meeting, marking and post-marking internal moderation of grades. Following internal moderation, a sample of work is reviewed by the External Examiner for the programme to ensure that the standards applied are comparable to those at other institutions. Feedback

Feedback on your work will be provided in a range of ways at various times throughout this module, and different feedback will serve slightly different purposes. Feedback is designed to support your learning and help you to improve subsequent work, so you need to engage and get the most out of the feedback provided.

Please note that feedback is provided throughout the module not just on formally assessed tasks. It will be provided on your work and contribution in class, on the formal assessment tasks and, in some circumstances, during student office hours.

If you would like further information about feedback, or how to use it, please talk to your academic tutor on this module or your Academic Adviser or Programme Lead.

Poster Tutorials: In week 11/12 is an opportunity will be provided to showcase your poster visual, get feedback and tutorial support to answer any final questions on the reflective summary

In-Class – feedback will also be provided in class during workshop sessions on self-assessment exercises.

Written feedback on the final assessment can be accessed via the Moodle dropbox. If you would like to discuss any feedback on your work, the module team/module leader will be available to discuss feedback on your work in office hours.

Assessment feedback will normally be provided within 15 working days of submission, or on the University Results Release date for the final piece of coursework. Please note that all marks are provisional until they are ratified by an Examination Committee.
