Intention and aims  

The central theme in MG5601 is to study theories and practices for Business Intelligence. Methods and theories have been introduced in this  module to help you understand the relevant issues. This coursework is designed to help you develop your understandings of the theories and  practices in business intelligence and apply the related techniques for resolving problems. The assessment/coursework provide opportunities to  

• To demonstrate a knowledge of the business intelligence application  
• To show an understanding of the material taught and related theory and techniques on the module  
• To apply theory and material taught on course in practice  
• To demonstrate team work  

Description of the Assessment:

The tasks and assessment for this coursework involves one part: (1) Individual Essay  

Write an essay of up to 3000 words (inclusive of references, tables, figure captions, footnotes, and endnotes). All submission will be checked for inclusion of  any AI-generated content without appropriate acknowledgment.  

The essay presents the design of a business intelligence system for decision support for a real-life business, based on common assumptions for its  operations, including:  

• Demonstrate essential business processes and data flow;  
• Discuss a few real-life challenges that the business face;  
• Discuss methods or techniques of business intelligence analysis (such as statistical/regression/time series/data mining) can be applied to support  business decision making. Examples can be presented for illustration.  

The following aspects can be considered:  

• Purpose, objectives and background to the business  
• Business offering (product and/or service)  
• Features of new functions, illustration/demonstration can be considered  
• Business strategy (including business model and research & development)  
• Operational strategy (including principal risks and problems, resource requirements and staff core competencies)  

Here are some basic questions your pitch should try to answer:

➢ What customer need does the product/service meet?
