Assignment Brief

Main Objective of the assessment 

This assignment provides you with the opportunity to:  

• Critically discuss and apply logistics and supply chain management frameworks, models and theories and describe the latest trends within that field.
• Analyse and evaluate in a critical and creative manner the structure, dynamics and main processes of logistics and supply chain management and  evaluate their changing environment. 
• Identify and analyse the characteristics of the main logistics and supply chain management functions and their interrelations in the automotive industry  with a focus on the case of MINI Plant Oxford and evaluate relevant strengths and weaknesses. 
• Critically analyse the essential role of logistics and supply chain management in providing effective, efficient and sustainable service to customer  
• Articulate and communicate ideas in a written report. 

Description of the Assessment 

Using the concepts, tools and techniques studied on this module you are to explore the logistical challenges and opportunities of MINI Plant Oxford  (www.mini.co.uk) as a major car producer and make recommendations to address them. You should make specific reference to the company’s strategy which  underpins their desire to improve economic, environmental and social sustainability of its supply chain. When reflecting upon the strategy, you must  how it influences the selection and engagement with suppliers and how the strategy is manifested in their service offering and their engagement with customers. 

The assignment should be completed in report format of no more than 3,000 words and should include the following: 

1. An Executive summary
2. An Introduction which provides a backdrop to the supply chain strategy of MINI Plant Oxford (no more than two pages) 
3. The logistical and supply chain challenges of MINI Plant Oxford through a critical discussion and analysis of concepts, tools and techniques.
4. Recommendations to address the identified challenges with a workable implementation plan analysing their feasibility, acceptability, and  vulnerability.
