What am I required to do in this assignment?

Learning through Critique and Reflection

Examine one peer-reviewed research article and explain and reflect on the reasons for how and why the methods were used tomeet the research aims and objectives.

The main purpose of this assessment is to give you the opportunity to relate principles, theories, and research methods withpublished academic research. 

The exercise will help you to develop your analytical and writing skills in analysing and reflectingon a variety of research methods and data analysis techniques.

In this report you will be required to cover the following:

Part A: Summary of key points Identify and summarise the following for the article:

1- The topic, aims, objectives and research questions
2- Background literature: key concepts and theoretical frameworks
3- Methodology: what methodological approaches were used?
4- Data   analysis   and   findings:   how   was   data   analysed   and   how   do   findings   relate   to   the   research   questions   andbackground literature? 
5- Theoretical and practical implicationsA table format to organise and present your answer is highly suggested for Part A of this assessment.

Part B: Commentary You should provide a critical overview of the research based on the article reviewed.

Commentary may address questions such as (please note that these are some suggestions; you do not have to cover all ofthese):

-Why is this topic attracting research interest?

• What main issues seem to be of interest within it?
• What schools of thought seem to prevail?Is there a general consensus of opinion or a range of opposing theories? 
• What is the topic’s importance to academics or practitioners?
• What methodological approaches do researchers favour?
• What data analysis techniques were used?What are the general limitations of the existing research?
• To what extent has the existing research aided your understandingof the topic?  Do existing theories support practical application?

The main objective of this assessment is to learn through critique and reflection through understanding, summarizing, and analyzing academic research. In class we will be reviewing a number of academic articles to prepare you for the assessment.
