Further tips on developing Portfolio Two

Choose any borough in England except those in London and download short and long profiles from the websites below. ( See health profiles ppt on Blackboard)

  • Local Health - Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (long profile part one and two)
  • Local Authority Health Profiles - OHID (phe.org.uk) (short profile)
  • Microsoft Power BI (deprivation index)

Upload the long profile and short profiles on OneDrive in the dedicated folder.

Critically identify and analyse the indicators in the four categories- demographics, determinants, deprivation and health status. Look at red indicators in each category and choose the most important ones to describe the community health profile and needs.

You can also find and use the related Joint Needs Assessment (JSNA) report of the chosen borough/council to explore further. You can also refer to the ONS website.

Finalise one public health key issue that you wish to discuss and develop your digital story on. This should be based on the indicators that you have analysed above, or the local JSNA report and ONS data. Use original pictures to describe the issue. No Google images can be used.

Find the relevant intervention developed and implemented by the council. You are not suggesting but describing an already existing intervention. Use original pictures to describe the issue. No Google images can be used.

Link the intervention to the health promotion theories/approaches or models. You can use one or more.

Do the conclusion and references slides.

Portfolio 3: SWOT analysis of a healthcare system of a country [1200 words excluding references]

Describe the chosen country’s health (care) system- structure, processes, and type of model it is. (200 words).

Critically analyse the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the health system, focusing on six building blocks of the health system as described by WHO, using the indicators described for each building block. Do not repeat same indicators for SWOT. You must use government sources, not academic or general grey literature for data. Divide into the following: (800 words in total)

  • Strength- 200 words, weakness- 200 words, opportunities- 200 words and threat- 200 words. (Tip- You should demonstrate how strength is different from opportunity and weaknesses from threats. You do not need to cover every building block, but you should try to cover 2 or 3. Do not create a table.

You should conclude by describing about the implementation of UHC in the country and its progress, indicating how UHC has met or unmet the needs of the people based on the indicators you describe in the SWOT analysis. (200 words).

Deadline: 09.07.2024; 23:45 ( Turnitin submission of 1200-word analysis using essay template)

Tips for writing

Format and style

  • You should write in the active voice.
  • Avoid informal words, colloquial language in writing.
  • Avoid contractions (Can’t/don’t is wrong; use can not, do not).
  • Explain your abbreviations first before using them. For example, the World Health Organisation (WHO)
  • Use British English.
  • Do not write in first person. (I think, I read, I believe, etc.)
  • Please be careful with your spellings and punctuation marks. Poor grammar is poor writing and results in poor understanding and misleading.
  • The writing should be formal and should create a flow through linking sentences.
  • Use clear and concise academic language in writing.
  • No anecdotal stories.
  • Try not to be too descriptive. You need to do a ‘critical analysis’.
  • Make sure the format of your essay is Calibri or Arial font, 12. The margins for each page are 2.54 cm (the default in MS Word), and the line spacing is double, and justified (right and left sides of paragraphs are straight, like in a book or published report).

Referencing

  • You MUST use the Harvard Referencing system in your assignment
  • This should be for both in the body of the essay (citation) and references. Please signpost your references clearly and accurately in the body of the essay.
  • Use only academic peer-reviewed published articles, academic books, government websites or reliable international data sets from the UN or other international agencies.
  • Avoid grey literature, non-academic articles. For example- Google, blogs, newspapers, online opinions, non-validated data, etc.
