ENGE2005 Dynamics Lab Report Resit/Deferral Assessment Brief 2025/2026

The report is to be based on the Dynamics of a single degree of freedom vibrations encountered in the ECP Rectilinear experiment.

The report should not exceed a word count of 2000 words in total and student should attempt to answer these questions.

1.Provide Introduction, aims, objectives and methodology of the experiment in a clear, concise manner. (10 marks)

2.Identify the parameters of the 1DoF systems (normalized overshoot, damping ratio, natural frequency, effective mass, effective damping coefficient) using the approach described in Section 3 of the lab instruction. (20 marks)

3.Plot transient responses for different values of the proportional gain Kp using the Matlab ‘plot’ command for the proportional controller investigated in Sections 2. (10 marks)

4.Based on your experimental data and plot, explain how Kp affects transient parameters rise time, settling time, overshoot and steady state error? (10 marks)

5.Plot transient responses for changing Kd and Ki values using the Matlab ‘plot’ command for the PID controller. (10 marks)

6.Based on your experimental data and plot, explain how Kd and Ki affects transient parameters rise time, settling time, overshoot and steady state error? (20 marks)

7.For Proportional P, Proportional-Integral P-I, and then Proportional-Integral-Derivative PID, investigate how the location of poles changes with the changes of gains Kp, Ki, and Kd using Matlab. (10 marks)

8.Provide brief conclusions and recommendations for the experiment. (10 marks)
