Section A (65 Marks)

Answer all questions in this section.

Question 1

Note: Where applicable, your answers in this ECA shall be based on the Enterprise Singapore – Business Excellence (BE) Framework (2017).

You are encouraged to provide evidence of your analysis and insights into the situations described in the ECA. In answering the questions, you must quote references when citing examples.

Gardenia bread can be found in many supermarkets and convenience stores in Singapore. It is a brand that is very familiar to most residents in Singapore. Gardenia bread is one of the many products that are owned by QAF, a public-listed organisation. You may have first-hand experience of the product’s quality as one of its customers.

In addition to the above, do base your answers on your own researched information from multiple sources, such as the QAF’s website, press releases, annual reports, social media web-sites, word-of-mouth, etc.  

Question 1a

Discuss QAF with a short essay of not more than 300 words (indicate your word count at the end of your answer) based on the following:

• Profile/background and history, products and services, customers and/or markets served;
• Two (2) ways, with relevant examples, how QAF (focus only on Gardenia bread) differentiates itself from its competitors in the “bread” business. For example, it can be differentiated by offering unique products or services to attract customers, or by its innovative operations, etc.

Question 1b

Illustrate an excellent achievement of QAF either from awards won or from a positive media coverage (references required), and which is based on one (1) of the following areas:

• Business Excellence,
• Service Excellence,
• Operational Excellence, or
• People Excellence.

Question 2

Use your chosen subject (QAF) in Q1 to answer this question.  The following is a simplified Business Excellence (BE) self-assessment tool. Assume that you want to do an assessment on your chosen subject’s BE performance. To practise the BE evaluation, you are required to rate your chosen subject according to the statements in the below self-assessment tool. For each statement, indicate the rating that you would assign and also give concise reasons and/or comments, with evidence cited (i.e., citations or references next to the evidence given). Lastly, compute your Total Rating Score and Total Percentage Score of the subject. All ratings should be based on its operations in Singapore.

Note: You need to provide your answer in a table format similar to that below, and do not include the “Statements” column as the “S/N” column would have already provided the reference to the specific statement.

Question 3a

Demonstrate two (2) possibilities on how customers of your chosen subject could be involved in generating innovative ideas to enhance competitiveness. Your answer must not be more than 250 words (indicate word count at the end of the answer).

(9 marks)

Question 3b

Relate two (2) suggestions on how the subject’s business could use digital technologies and/or automation to create innovations that will enhance corporate social responsibility effort.  Your answer must not be more than 400 words (indicate word count at the end of the answer).

(16 marks)

Section B (25 Marks)

Answer all questions in this section.

Question 4

With reference to Question 3 in Section A, assume that you are the Business Consultant of your subject. You are to prepare a video presentation to the subject’s top management on the following:

• Demonstrate two (2) possibilities on how customers of your chosen subject could be involved in generating innovative ideas to enhance competitiveness.
• Relate two (2) suggestions on how the subject’s business could use digital technologies and/or automation to create innovations that will enhance corporate social responsibility effort.

Note: Your video presentation should be based on the answer that you have provided in Question 3 in Section A.

Section C (10 Marks)

Answer all questions in this section.

Question 5

Prepare a set of PowerPoint presentation slides upon which the video presentation in Section B is based. Please note that the PowerPoint presentation slides must be converted to PDF before submission to Canvas.
