Assessment Summary

This assessment evaluates key resources within the organisation, specifically people and finance. It considers the necessary integration to develop resource capability in order to successfully integrate corporate and operational strategies. 
Team Presentation - 20 minutes

A Team mark of 50% and an Individual mark of 50%

Learning Outcomes to be Assessed:

  1. Identify the theories and techniques relating to human capital development in particular those relating to motivation and their application.
  2. Evaluate change management theories to assess the potential challenges and opportunities associated with implementing change.
  3. Examine the role of financial management information for the monitoring and control of financial performance in organisations.
  4. Evaluate the role of standard financial and management account practices for financial decision making in organisations.

Rationale:

This module will focus on resource management and its effective deployment and allocation to achieve sustainable competitive advantage for organisations. Two main resources will be considered: HUMAN and FINANCIAL; without which, organisational success cannot be guaranteed.  

You will be introduced to theoretical concepts underpinning resource development and deployment such as, human capital development, change management, motivational theories, learning organisations, financial methods, investment appraisal, budgeting, alongside financial and management accounting.
 
This first output will be a team presentation of findings.

Description:

You and your team will investigate the effective management and integration of key resources. Once the investigation is complete, you should be able to evaluate the implications of any recommendations to improve performance and manage change. You should also be able to comment on the impact of these changes across industry.  

In addition, you should be able to consider financial implications for an organisation. This will include assessing and commenting on the financial health of the organisation using performance measures such as profitability, liquidity, solvency and efficiency, over a time frame of at least 5 years. Using these measures, you will be able to advise the organisation of any pitfalls and improvements which could be made for improved performance.

The team presentation should demonstrate your team’s understanding of how the elements within Resource Management integrate. In other words, you should explain how Human Resources and Financial Capabilities must integrate to achieve organisational success.

Your team should give a very brief explanation of the impact of HR and Finance on organisational success – this should be academically underpinned. The main part of the presentation relates to your team’s understanding of how these resources integrate. You should give examples from real organisations, gathering data from your own experience and from information available to the public, for example from newspapers, professional journals and trade magazines. In addition, you may consult databases such as FAME for data and financial information. Do not use information gathered solely from organisations’ web sites.

Finally you should evaluate the approach you have taken in teams for achieving the assignment brief and reflect on the learning process you have undergone as a team. 

An assessed, 20 minute team presentation will be presented to your tutors on your initial findings and you will be expected to DEFEND your work as a team. Your team will be expected to cover issues to include the following as a minimum:

Examples of resource integration from different organisations (you could consider comparison of like-for-like or competitor organisations (2 will suffice). 

Consider how the findings compare to industry and the sector/industry Your team’s reflections on learning – how would go about things differently next time.
